EPCOT

EPCOT LogoEPCOT, which opened in October 1982 is a fantastic theme park and is more than twice the size of the Magic Kingdom! It has a strong educational and environmental message, as well as the amazing "Illuminations: Reflections of Earth" firework and Laser extravaganza.

Epcot is more than likely to need a 2 day visit, and although it is by far the most Adult of the four theme parks, there is something to do for the whole family. Epcot is divided into two distinct areas: Future World and the World Showcase.

EPCOT is an abbreviation of "Experimental Prototype Community Of Tomorrow".

Arriving at Epcot
Epcot is well signed from the I-4 and US-192 Once through Toll Plaza you will be directed where to park your car by the car park CM's.

Make a note of where you parked so you can find your car come closing time.

Walk to the end of the car park and a Tram will soon be along to take you to the entrance. Depending on where you have been parked it may be quicker just to walk. All you need to do is head straight towards the large impending golf ball that is "Spaceship Earth"

You can also enter Epcot from the International Gateway, located in the World Showcase. You can either walk to the gateway from one of the Epcot Resorts or you can take the ferry from the resorts.

DIBB Tip:
Take the kids to each country and get them to search for the Kidz Fun Stop - here they can get a free mask that they can decorate at each country, they can have their name written in the language of each country on the mask and spend time adding different decorations. This makes a wonderful free memento of EPCOT.

There are Guest Lockers available to secure your items located on the west side of Spaceship Earth just after you enter the park. There are also lockers available at the International Gateway.

DIBB Bits:
  • The first manatee born in captivity at The Living Seas was in 1991. Following a contest, the manatee was named CHESTER, which stands for; Children Helping Endangered Species to Eventually Recover.
  • ATMs at Epcot are located on the east side of the Entrance Plaza, on the path between Future World and World Showcase, and near Germany.
  • Play in the Magic Water Fountain on the walkway between Future World and World Showcase (on the right when walking to World Showcase).
  • Drink from a Talking Water Fountain. There are three that we know of: if you face the "Fountain of Nations" with Spaceship Earth behind you, the talking water fountain is outside the Mouse Gear Shop (east side) on your left. The second one can be found one to the right of the magic play fountain between World Showcase and Future World. There is a third one located behind Innoventions West , near the restroom, between Innoventions and the Honey I Shrunk the Audience Pavilion.
  • At Innoventions East you can send a 10 second video clip via email to folks back home.
  • Look for the tiny lights in the sidewalk in Futureworld.
  • In Innoventions West, at the IBM exhibit, you can actually email pictures of yourself.
  • Ever wondered why the Tower of Terror in Disney Studios is sand pink? If you stand on the Future World side of the lagoon in front of the Odyssey Center it is directly in line of sight behind Morocco and as it is such a tall structure it would have stood out and not looked right.
  • 11,324 individual panels make up the exterior shell of Spaceship Earth.
  • Look carefully at the sleeping Monk on Spaceship Earth ride to locate a hidden Mickey nearby.
