Weeki Wachee Springs State Park

Great place to unwind from the Parks in Orlando. People are very Friendly and much more laid back then Orlando. One of the main attractions in this area is Weeki Wachee Spring State Park it is famous for its Mermaid Show which is great. However, the park that it is set in is a bit run down.

The park opened in the 1950's with Elvis being one of the famous visitors to the park. In the summer period, they open 10am - 4pm but this can change. They have a water park called Buccaneer Bay which is set along side of the crystal clear waters of the spring it has Flumes, Lazy river, slides nothing really spectacular.

It has a nice sandy area for the little kids don’t expect Typhoon Lagoon, the park also has animal shows where they bring out animals reptiles etc for a show and tell. There is a boat cruise along the spring but does not stick to its timetable and is not suitable for wheelchairs or the infirm.

There is a small café, which is where we came upon the only UN Friendly person in our entire visit he was A grumpy old man not happy in his job at all we had some hot dogs and chips/crisps not great
Nevertheless it filled a hole.

In all the ticket price is worth paying just to see the Mermaid show we paid $13 per person for park which includes the Mermaid show For Buccaneer bay and park its $26.

Strollers and wheelchairs are available for rental $3 Electric cart $15.

Tube rentals for buccaneer bay are around $8 for a single but you do get $5 back if you have not damaged it.

Also available to rent (prices are for boat not per person)
Single Kayak: $30
Tandem Kayak: $35
Canoe: $35
Parking is Free at the Park

We have visited this park twice since our first visit only to see if it has improved but it has not so won't visit again.

Beach
Have a Beach day at Pine Island( Pine Island Dr. Spring Hill, Fl 34607). Parking is $2. Take a picnic or have a bbq plenty of pits and seating areas. For the little kids there is a Small park area with slides. You can fish swim or just sit in the sun. It’s a small beach area which the Locals use. Sometimes the Harley/Honda bikers come to this area. They don’t normally cause any problems they usually park all their bikes together in the middle of the car park. There is a beach café called Willys serves hot food from 8am until 6pm. Burgers fries mini corn dogs great sandwiches nice fruit cocktails. No alcohol is sold or allowed in the area. Pine Island is suitable for wheelchair users. Has clean toilets and showers. Covered seating area at Willys Café. Pine Island has a great view of the Gulf of Mexico. You will experience wonderful sunsets.

Takeaways
Only Had one from a Chinese takeaway near winn Dixie Commercial way. Remember they are not like here in UK they have rice included in most dishes. We made the mistake and ordered rice with all our dishes we ended up with so many boxes.

We have meet some really nice people who have now become friends so this is another reason for always going back to this area.
