Hi Long Story and no Pics
We where booked to stay at HoJo Maingate East with Portland Direct next March, but after emails going unanswered wasn't that happy with Portland, then after seeing hotel last week was even more unhappy, after looking at Globespan prices and the fact it saves travelling to London,I wondered whether it would be feasible to cancel booking with Portland (I did contact Portland by phone they wanted £120 to change plus £700 for new hotel), and book flights and hotel DIY, short story booked Comfort Inn LBV for 11 nights with BA and QII for 4 nights with BA, 4 Economy flights with Globespan and it works out £200 more expensive this includes losing £520 desposit, plus we get an extra 2 days on holiday as well, just thought I'd share as when in chat on Sunday night a few dibbers went very quiet when I said we where staying at the HoJo:erm:

We've never stayed at the HoJo, but I'm sure the Comfort Inn will suit you, the location is fantastic. Glad you got somewhere you are happy with, but shame you had to lose the deposit.

Hi Steve
I know u did tell me it was ok, but I think since Water Mania closed its doors the area has run down, it looked pretty rough when I saw it a couple of weeks ago:smile:
Also we had a few guests transfered to QII from there during our stay and they thought QII was a palace compared to it:omg:

We stayed at the HoJo Maingate West out past Orange Lakes with airtours in 1997. The first rooms we got were a disgrace, and we had to sleep in them the first night. Next day airtours did not want to move us, but we complained to the hotel manager and got nicer rooms by the pool. It also looked even more tired when we drove past it last year. This was airtours 3* accom.

Next trip we booked BA TRavelodge 4* at LBV, much nicer hotel, tiny pool, great location but since then we have become villa dwellers!

I would say you have done the right thing.

My globespan flights have just dropped by £100 each - I could rebook the seats at the new prices, then cancel my original flights and lose the £300 deposit and still be £100 to the good - not sure whether to do this though!

You have to do what you thinks right and if you didn't change it you would only spend the next 6 months worrying about it. I think £200 is well worth the peace of mind and 2 extra days. I stayed in the comfort innLBV on my very first trip in 87 and it was fine then and i believe it is still lovely now.

We have stayd at both HoJo Maingaite East (twice) and QII (also twice). It's a few years since we stayed at either but we preferred QII for both the hotel itself and also the location. I reckon you made a good choice.

oh dear its done now but i wouldn't of changed just through what you read on here or trip advisor!!
everyone has their opinions but you have to make your own choices, before we went our hotel had a few bad write ups, but i had a word with my travel agent and we decided to stick with what we had booked. the hotel was fine and you are only there to sleep .you cant please everyone though im sure you will have a great time

I guess when you think how much the holiday costs £200 is not much for peace of mind - it's horrible to be worrying about your accomodation in the build up to your holiday. It really plays on your mind.

I have to ask.....what's the QII?

It's the Quality In International.

Theres nod enying a florida holiday is exspensive anyway, so i think its important to make sure you are happy and if that means chopping and changing things and maybe paying a bit extra in the rpocess if it leads to a fab holidya its worth it. i know some people say its juts a hotel you only sleep in it, but thats half your holiday! it needs to be right, comfy and clean. hotel is a veyr important part of your hols so follow your instincts and change if needs be.

Comfort Inn LBV is lovely:thumbs-up

Fab security too - security guard in hut - you cant even get into carpark without a pass.

My in-laws were dropping my son back one afternoon after the water park (we'd gone back early to do some packing) and he actually rang the room to check we had a son and knew these people!:pgig:

The freebie brekkie is ok too. The pool was always lovely and clean and plenty of pool towels and their little bar was fine for a drink or 2. The room was nice and had a biggish fridge - big enough for my cheesecake and hubbys beer anyway!
