portable dvd

hi, am thinking about buying portable dvd while im out there to use in the car for our young son - does anyone know whether they will work in uk cars ? are all car cigarette lighters the same as this is where you plug the power lead into?thanks

To answer your questions...

Cigarette lighters, yes they generally are the same 12volts negative earth. Unless you are hiring a big beastie like a hummer or a Dodge Ram, in which case be careful as these have a 24volt supply as well occasionally.

If you buy a DVD player in the states, it will happily play DVD's bought in the states... (Region 1) but portables are unlikely to be region free, and so will not play your U.K. (region 2 I think) DVD's...

and and DVD's you do buy in the states are likely to be region 1 and probably wont play on your home DVD player unless it too is region free..

but I wont stop you buying one if you really must. I personally would reccommend a good book, region free, you can read it anywhere, and it doesnt matter what voltage you use ...:grin:

Hi Candice

We bought our portable dvd player over there and have had no problems really using it here in the car. The only thing we have found is that the cigarette lighters are slightly bigger here and the fitting wobbles about a bit in our car here. Apparently there is a collar that you can get though, we have not got it.
Ours is also multi region so we can play any region dvd's and its dual voltage, 110/240
Just to say we bought ours from Walmart so if anything went wrong with it we could take it back to Asda.

We are considering buying DS2 his 3rd DVD player in two years in Walmart. We plan to take one of his British DVD's to try it first.

thanks all, we have one already which our eldest son uses all the time in car and thought would be cheaper to buy another one over there for our younger son. will have a look on walmart website to see how prices compare and will definately check that we buy a multi region one. good idea about buyin in walmart as like you said i can take it back to asda if have any problems. thanks again :wavey:

Hi Candice,we bought one from ebuyer ,a uk website for £50, it even has a code for it for multi region .were taking this with us aswel,i think they still do deals on ebuyer,worth a look
