me and dh are going to portsmouth for the bank holiday weekend;) , I have booked us into the marriott hotel , has anyone stayed there? trip advisor reports are ok, but a little reassurance would be nice as there are so many hotels in that area. We are going for the kite festival ( dh's new hobby!) and I would like to get in a trip to the isle of wight as we have never been. we have been to portsmouth before, when gunwharf quays opened, and we were very impressed with the city. this is our first trip alone in 16 years!:tounge: dd is under strict instructions not to have any wild parties! it helps to have grandad just round the corner:pgig:

I have never stayed at the Marriott but my brother lives at Gunwharf Quays and he said the holiday inn there is really nice. I think it takes just over an hour to get to the Isle of Wight.

I live in Portsmouth and have stayed at the Marriott a couple of times after Christmas parties - both were fine, although you should be aware that the traffic around the hotel is a bit hectic, as it's next to Europe's largest set of traffic lights!!
If you go to the Isle of Wight as foot passengers, it takes about 15 minutes on the Fast-Cat, or around 45 minutes on the Red Funnel Ferry from Portsmouth.
Have a wonderful bank holiday - the Kite Festival is great fun and some of the kites there are spectacular!!! :)

The hovercraft is good fun - the kids love it and it goes right from the beach by the funfair.
The Marriott is a ways outside of town - near to Port Solent so you won't be lacking for places to eat/drink ;)

We stayed in the Marriott in may(hubbie working in the area) it was great, we had a room that looked over the bar/swimming pool. Hubbie working there again for 2 weeks(sat 19th Aug-1st Sept), this time we have booked a caravan at the Haven camp, not far away, and taking our son's friend too. Have a great time. Debbie

If it's the church farm caravan site you're staying at , we have been there a few times for the goodwood festival of speed, it's a really good site but it's a bit out of the way. you should go to the ship inn at chichester harbour, the food there is fantastic. chichester is nice also.:wavey:

Yes, it is church farm but not sure what is happening at the moment, as my son who is almost 2o and was not comming with us, was taken into hospital on tues(after 24 in pain and 3 doctors visits) after lots of tests, he has his appendix taken out. Saw doc yesterday and he said it was the biggest he had removed. So untill i know when he will be allowed home, we are not sure what is happening. i have phoned the park today to ask if we can arrive on sunday instead(my mum and day will look after him) and are waiting for them to get back to me. Fingers crossed he can come home later.
