Just to let people know that Ryanair are now very strict with their baggage allowances.
We flew back from Spain yesterday and we, like most other people on our flight, assumed that we would have to put all our hand luggage in our cases following the recent developments.
(We did try to ring Stansted and Ryanair direct for confirmation, but could not get through)
When we got to the airport they were allowing normal hand luggage and charging everyone who was over their baggage allowance at €8 per kg. At that point it was a bit late to start unpacking cases and putting things in hand luggage so we stumped up €56 and put it down to experience.
I totally understand and support any measures intended to help mitigate potential problems, but it did seem to be a nice little earner for the airline.

That sounds typical of Ryanair. We flew with them to Murcia a few years back. Rather than get a seat for our baby at the time we took her on our laps. On the way back we got hit for excess luggage charges re the baby's paraphanalia, as being an infant on a lap she had no luggage allowance. A seat would have cost us £25 or so, the excess luggage charge was £130. We were only bringing back what we had taken out - if there had been a problem on the way out we could have left items in the car boot - but they let you get to Spain first and hit you on the return where you have no alternative but to pay. Ours was not an isolated case either - nearly everyone on the flight was being surcharged. It was a real money earner for Ryanair.

Ryanair have always been strict with their baggage allowance. It was only flights FROM the UK that were required to have no hand luggage. Never assume with them.

They were strict last year, we were 1kg over so I said I would put our washbag (it had shampoo, conditioner etc) in my hand luggage, but they wouldn't let me and we had to pay 7 Euros. The couple in front of us brought back exactly the same they had taken with them, they had been up in the mountains so not bought souvenirs or anything, but they had to pay. They were asking for the address of head office as they were going to write to complain, doubt if they got anywhere.
I have always said I would never fly with them again, not only because of that, but their planes were filthy and the cabin crew were just awful!!
I know people will say you get what you pay for, but other budget airlines aren't like that.

There are no restrictions coming back to the UK apart from American Hand luggage ones.. Europe remains the same.

We had exactly the same problem with a lack of info coming back from Geneva on Monday... When we got to the airport I simply ended up with a bag I had packed for the hold that I took into the cabin instead...
