Just wondering who is still staying at Disney's All Star Movies Resort when we are there? I know a lot of people have moved to other resorts because of the pool closure. We are there 5th to 19th October, are we alone?

We are there 7th - 14th October but I am humming and hawing about it. As we are only in Orlando for a week - we go to the beach for the second week I know we won't spend much if any time at the pool so it shouldn't really matter however part of me wants everything to be perfect. Hmmm decisions, decisons!

Hi
We are there on 22 Sept for a week then off to AKL for the second week.
We tried to upgrade to either Conerado Springs or Polynesian but were all full, or so First choice told the travel agents.
We have decided to stay at ASM's as we'll probably not use the pool much anyway and if the builders are noisey we'll insist on a different room on arrival or even try for an upgrade once there if necessary.

I think the main pool is closed for a refeb for about 3 months, from Sep.
Sure someone will come along in a mo, and clarify, or go to the DIS 9 Sa site, all info on there in detail )
sorry I guess you werent aware? There are 2 other quiet pools to use.
Ive just looked it up and it says the fantasia pool is going to be refurbed February, doesnt mention anything in september.
I need info on this, please advise!

Doody, the link to the thread about ASMo pool closure is here (http://www.thedibb.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=106276)
This is just really annoying. For the first time i go and book a different hotel and something like this has happened. I dont know this hotel well, i dont know if its the centre peice of the hotel, but i wont be best happy if all i hear is hammer and drills going off with dust flying across the place.
I believe there are different hotels within ASM, 101 dalmations, Herbie, Toystory and Fantasia, do these all surround the fantasia pool, or is there one which is furthest away from it, as thats the one im gonna be looking at getting when i arrive now.
Oh, look another grey hair lol

There is a layout plan of ASMo here (http://www.allearsnet.com/acc/asmv10.jpg) The Toy Story buildings are the furthest away from the Mighty Ducks pool, which will still be open but the Fantasia pool is pretty much the central point.
If you're in Mighty Ducks or 101 Dalmatians, you should be OK, however these are preferred buildings, I think so unless you've paid for preferred you're unlikely to get them.
Paid for preference????? Thats interesting, i looked into that earlier in year and was told i get what im giving when i get there. However if i have a preference i can ask, but odds on i wont get what i want.
Thanks for the lay out plan, i guess im just going to have to deal with it, im just dreading workmen, drills, dust, hammers, cause it makes doody a very dull boy!
I could always take my skateboard while its empty and pull of some moves in there lol, now that would be interesting to see, especially as i have a slipped disc right now lol.
lol

It could be First Choice's contracted number of rooms are fully booked.....

I doubt very much whether there would be a lot of disturbance going on. I suspect it is just that the pool has been drained and is probably going to be painted and generally cleaned up.
The preferred building thing is different to having a requested room. There are certain buildings at the Value resorts which are deemed to be in a better location, nearer to buses, food court etc. and as such are classed as preferred buildings, meaning they cost extra. You may be lucky and get a preferred building if they are not too busy, as a free upgrade. We had that happen to us once before.
I do understand how you feel about the refurb though - we found out a couple of weeks ago that our hotel is being refurbished while we are there in October and several of the hotel restaurants and facilities will be closed - not good but we still really want to stay there and we are hoping it won't impact too much on our holiday :)
Looks like me and Little Lauren are gonna have to lay on the charm. LOL

they will be running golf carts to take you to and from the music and sports main pools if you wish to use those ones.
Keep in mind that the mighty ducks pool will still be open ....

we decided to move to pop as we have spent a lot on the holiday and yes i want it perfect and wasn't prepared to 'make do'. yes i know we could have used the small pool but can you imagine how crowded it will be, others told me that i can use the other pools in the music and sports resort but to be honest i didn't fancy doing that as when DH and the kids are using the pool i tend to do some laundry and end up popping back and forward to the room so it wouldn't do. we have now moved to pop for our first 2 weeks and it looks like a smashing hotel.
Doody... i didn't know about the refurb either until someone just happened to mention it on here a couple of weeks ago, i phoned virgin and surprise surprise they didn't know either:mad2:
Just makes me mad andi30, and i know what you mean.
This is my first trip with my first child of 19 months old, some people might think, what are we moaning at, and when we get there it might not be as bad as we seem, but i want it perfect, thats all i ask.
But im sure we can still have fun, im not gonna let a pool get to me lol

I don't think you guys are "moaning" at all. Good god, if you'd heard me when I found out they were moving Captain Cook's at the Polynesian and we'd not get to purchase refillable mugs during this time ... you'd think they'd said they were shutting MK for the length of our stay ;) I did however take the time to rationalise how much would this really impact on my stay and could I live with it?
There is no right or wrong answer, it is purely a personal choice and down to each individual's priorities.
You all have to do what is correct for your family's needs and if that is moving resorts then do it!
Enjoy your hols whatever you decide to do.

Do you thing the rehab will be completed on time? We travel out on 13th December. Are Disney good at sticking to dates or could it be like Wembley Stadium!?

If it is first choices allocated rooms which are full, will it mean i've no chance of relocating when i get there either?

not necessarily darth, Guest Services are fantastic in assisting you to relocate to another Disney hotel if you are not at all happy at the one you are at.
I had a special TA rate that could not easily be changed but they bent over backwards to get me sorted with somewhere I was happy with.
