My DD and DS don't really have sensitive skin,so we could buy washing powder and conditioner when we get to Orlando,at home we use persil,What US brands do other Dibbers use when they are away, because my kids are young I need one that removes lots of stains!:d:

I use a liquid because that works better in their washers hence why supermarkets over their seem to mainly sell it. I use Tide because it is better with their water and washers.
Comfort comes in handy little in wash plastic bubbles now - like the liquid Ariel etc - better than fluid to take away.

hi
whatever one uses in florida does'nt seem to get clothes as clean and white as u.k. laundry detergents. they add bleach as an accessory also they really don't go a bundle on biological things! usually take tablets with conditioner in them and crumble them as previously suggested. works a treat. if still not very white next time i add 4 sachets of vinegar that does the trick. vinegar is also good for soaking socks prior to washing them, preventing atheletes foot. what rubbishy facts i remember!

I always pack a box of persil tablets in the suitcase, these seem to work fine in the american machines. I don't use conditioner over there and the clothes still seem to come out soft.
The lads and I all suffer from sensitive skin and eczema. We always stay in a villa and I use Tide liquid (better than the powder) with Downy Fresh fabric conditioner in the fragrance april fresh. :-)

Tide liquid here as well, it is quiet good, the liquids are much better over there.

Both me and youngest DS have sensitive skin and I take persil non-bio tablets and comfort pure fabric conditioner (this time I have the pearls).
I am going to take a few capsules & bounce sheets to use in the villa. No point buying a large box out there & discovering its rubbish (I have been told US brands not as good).

Hi,
I don't think it is always the American washing powder that is to blame but their washing machines. We have stayed in two villas, each with laundry facilities, and have found they don't work as well as ours do.
They seem to all be huge top loaders with a maximum wash cycle of about 20 minutes!

I have to admit I love the American washing machines - They're so big and industrial and simple !! They do the job in a fraction of the time mine takes with no unnecessary fancy programmes. (I know I'm sad - I love spending time in my own little laundry room when we're over there!!)

I am equally sad, I love the washing machines soooo much that next time I need a new one i'm buying a large american one.
I wash every day we are there, I love the little laundry room
I was in tide liquid, use downy fc and bounce tumble drier sheets (which I buy a big box of to come home with because they are so cheap)

My DD has severe Excema and I use Fairy tablets... I just crumble them in as the washer fills up.. we have stayed in many villas but always used fairy tabs that I take and the results have been hit and miss.. I think the washers dont wash for as long as ours... I wouldn't fancy taking liquid in my case just in case it burst...
I neve use fabric softener....

i always take ariel tablets and crumble them at the bottom of the machine (they crumble easier than persil tablets) and my whites have never been whiter:omg: , i also use bounce sheets and that way i don't need to iron the clothes;)

Same here!! :thumbs-up I actually enjoy doing the washing in Florida. Over here I hate doing it!! :(

Sad I know but I take Persil tablets.
Youngest DS can be allergic to bio powders so I don't think it's worth the risk. Who'd want a rash in the Florida heat?

floridafunshine, you and my sister should get together she goes round the villa gathering washing like there is no tomorrow, if she could get a machine in the case it would be home with her in a flash!

I always take persil liquid with me due to the children and sensitive skin, I have taken tablets too but the liquid disperses quicker the tablets can somtimes leave a mark on the clothes (in my case anyway)

I used Wisk which seemed to work fine, even on the toughest stains my DS could make like chocolate ice cream, spaghetti sauce, my washing came out clean, and whites, white!
My MIL is crazy for the washing machines over there, she said she's looking forward to washing after seeing the pics of the laundry room at our vila, she's more than welcome to do my washing while I'm in here ..

Just checked with the wife, she said that Tide is perfect the big American machines along with Downy fabric conditioner.

ditto fairy in case every time. i did find they sell shout stain remover with a plastic scrubbing brush thing on top there, its wonderful stuff. the spray one you can get over here isnt a patch in it.
 someone emptied a cup of hot chocolate over linen trousers and white tea-shirt then had to walk round universal all day. when i got back to villa it got treated with shout and was 100% clean again, well impressed. the stuff managed to move everything my DD managed to spill...
just a daft tip, we bought a navy wallmart teashirt 2 sizes to big for DD which lived in my park bag. for meals and ice creams it went on over her clothes and we didnt have to fuss about spills. it was known as the tinkbib, as in it had tinkabell on it , she was 5 at the time she thought it was ace cos she hates to be dirty.:thumbs-up

Gabby, what a good idea with the oversize t-shirt. My kids are too old for that now & if asked they'd say it was mum who would need it!
They may be right I always manage to spill something.
