Hi there,
Has anyone been to one of these nights before? Are they worth going? Are they really scary? Is there much audience participation?

Thanks

If by "audience participation" you mean running and screaming - then yes there's plenty.

Try standing still and keeping quiet while there's a chainsaw wielding maniac going for your ankles, or Freddy Krueger breathing down your neck in a haunted house. They don't ever actually touch you, but although parts of your brain knows this, the rest doesn't!!

But you are not allowed to dress up.

Is it really scary though?

Wellllllllllllllll - I thought so and judging by the screaming and hollering all around the park, I think everyone else was scared too.

There are 'scare zones' and 'houses'. In the zones, there are lots of ghoulish looking people who will come up to you - some with chainsaws - some jump out from behind bushes etc - YUP this gave me a few scares and also my fearless husband.

The houses are worse. If you look at the HHN site, you will see there are 7 this year. There are similar to a 'haunted house' setup, all very well themed and creepy, usually very dark. You walk through and there are 'scare actors' who relish getting into character and generally frighten the life out of you - jumping out, making loud noises, whispering in your ear etc. They are not allowed to touch you at all. If you are like me, the anticipation of the scare is the worst part.

I don't know how old you are or if you are taking children, but I would say the event is too intense for the little-uns. I am 39 and was petrified at some points - I am a big wuss though.

You can still enjoy the park without going into the houses - but it is all good fun. It was one of the best nights of our hols.

would I said it was scary - YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!

Very, very scary but enormous fun.

Absolutely not suitable for the under 12s, and probably not suitable for the under 16s unless they are fearless.

They are not allowed to touch you and you are not allowed to touch them .. but when you are bouncing around in a mirror maze with some evil scary humongous clown in there with you somewhere..well if I had of bounced into him i would have had to been taken out by ambulance I think ... i am a right wuss anyway but mirror mazes are not my strong point and clowns have always freaked me out! anything but clowns!!

didnt see much else as I had to take my DD back to the hotel (well via Bill and Teds show ;)) by the time I got back the crowds and lines were scarier than the clown so I gave up...

top tip .. avoid Fridays and, Saturdays especially, like the plague... way way too busy...

I absolutely hated it, and I love horror stuff.

There's just something really 'pee your pants' frightening about someone charging at you with a chainsaw, even if you know its fake. And the actors really get into it. Really.

Plus they sell quite a lot of booze that night too and when we were there it was basically just filled with college students getting wasted. Which I'd have been all for if I'd been there with my mates instead of my parents.

Personally we thought we could pretty much avoid the halloween stuff and just get some extra time on the rides but it doesn't work like that. You get completely immersed whether you want to or not. ;)

has anyone been on weeknights and could comment on the amount of queuing?

Scarey YES!

One bit of advice, you can usually stay in the parks in a lock down zone whilst they change over from day time to HHN. As it takes a little while for the park to fill back up and everyone get back around, this is a good opportunity to go on some of the busyier rides when you get released. I made it round dueling dragons 5 times on the front seats last year before anyone turned up. The houses are more fun when there are plenty of people around anyway.

The leading edge of hurricane Wilma turned up on the night I did it last year, and it rained like I have never seen before. But as I sloshed my way back to the Hard Rock hotel I had the biggest smile ever. Best night of my holiday.

We went last year on a Thursday (27th October) and the queues for the houses were massive by about 8 o'clock. In fact it was pretty busy right from the start, we had to queue to get in IOA around 6:15 ish. This may have been due to it being the last weekend so we plan to go the week before on this coming trip.

Oh ... and YES .... it is scary!!

ah ok thanks!

do u think it will take more than 1 visit to get everything seen? i have a frequent fear pass anyway

6 Sep 06, 03:24 PM
I would think if you can get in early then you should be able to do all the houses, and you MUST take in one of the Bill & Ted shows. I understand there are other shows this year so it will be a very full night. If you can spread it over 2 nights it should be a little less manic.

princessjilly
6 Sep 06, 03:28 PM
well we intend to incorporate the nights we visit with nights out at City walk so we may even spread it over a few visits.

thanks for that :)

I will be there on my birthday again this year, can't think of a better place to be =)

Get some fastpass tickets (usually sold out on the day, order via the web) or be in the park real darn early because it gets silly busy!

Scarey, yes. I'm a 33 year old male and they have had me jump out of my skin before.

Busch Gardens throw an equally good scarefest too.

Been twice.....1st was awesome...words cannot do it justice....2nd time it was in IoA and although content was still AWESOME the park was WAY too busy....they sold too many tickets IMO but hey its all about the $$$$$

Still would recommend it to anyway

Bf would love this.. He's really into horror films and after showing him BCKloon's trippie he was dead enthusiastic. I on the other hand am a first class grade A wuss and am pretty sure i'd be reduced to tears. I'm almost glad that it probably won't be on during our hol next year as i'd feel bad if bf couldn't go just cos i'm a big jessie :confused2

same for me too.............I will be taking a spare pair too.

loved/hated it last time - I know that is a contradiction, but I loved laughing at myself for being silly as I was soooooooo scared - after hating the fright of course. Nearly crying too at some points in Pyschotherapy in 2003. I am a big wuss and not afraid to admit it  ;)

I totally see were you are coming from! I'm the worlds biggest horror fan however i'm a mixture of excited and mortified concerning HHN. I love horror cos its like on the screen but having all these evil made up actors is going to make me crap my pants. I'm a big wuss LOL! Yup walking contradiction me.

Can't make much of a comment really as we only stayed 15mins....I couldn't take the terror  so made my DH take me back to the hotel! Not my idea of fun but all the Americans seem to love it...I guess they just celebrate halloween more intensely than we do over here! :o:
