View Full Version : What shows/attractions (not coasters) have you NEVER done and why?

Sue
4 Sep 06, 09:47 AM
For regular visitors, I bet there are several things that you have NEVER done despite having the time/been right next to it with no queue etc.

For example, we have never been in the Hall of Presidents, The Country Bear Jamboree, American Adventure at Epcot and I am sure there are more.

At Christmas and New Year we have decided to do things that we have always walked past before, so looking for some gems please?

I have asked not for coasters as many people do not like them, so looking for the more obscure things that we will do this year:thumbs-up

ps. I might draw a line somewhere though - does sticking your head in the Hall of Presidents count as "doing it"? :pgig:

Country Bears (Especially their xmas version) is definately in the small world category .......... modern day torture chamber.

DD loved when she was little, and we'd all troop in with granny and grandad and DD and her grandad would sing "There's blood on the saddle" with Big Al at the tops of their voices, as we would try and slide under the benches ......

My wife and I adore both The American Adventure and Hall of Presidents. We make a point doing them both at least once each trip.

They are both very good (if somewhat brief and abridged!) and entertaining views into the general history of America and its people, giving an insight into why they believe and behave the way they do. OK, they're also very patriotic shows, but what wrong with that - what the heck, you are in America don't forget! ("When in Rome", as they say... but surely that's a different Epcot Pavilion?)

Wouldn't it be boring if we all loved and hated the same ones.

Rainforest cafe as the smell makes me ill, I've tried desperatly but nearly passed out in the gift shop. No-one can explain why.

WDW is for fun and entertainment and for excitement etc.
JMHO - it is not for patriotic GOO - because that is all it is. The world and its history according to the US - it's a bit like the storyline in Spaceship Earth, the Egyptians were ok, the Romans etc fine but America came along and made it all better.:confused2

That - is NOT what Walt Disney wanted I'm pretty sure (good as I'm born:pgig: )

I will have a go at the Country Bears, but hate hate hate Small World and I would have to be in coma to go in there again.

Hi - I read about this in Tinks current trippies:D In the land Pavillion at Epcot - kids can make and bake their own cookies:D

I like their special oven, which no matter what splodgy messes the kids have put onto the baking tray, still manages to deliver perfectly shaped cookies a few minutes later - and cool enough to pick up too! Must be Disney magic, cos that almost never happens to me at home. :)

Here is my DD Lucy making cookies earlier this year:

I believe that everyone will gleam something different from a WDW trip. What fits for one person will not fit for another, I personally have never done Hall of Presidents or the Country Bears as my DS would never be able to sit through the show at the Hall of Presidents for that long a time, though my DH has done this.

Country Bears on the other hand does not appeal to us, the kids are older now and find the rides more enjoyable. Maybe we are missing out of some great attractions but in my personal opinion I dont believe at the end of our holiday we have not missed out on the magic, if anything its that magic that pulls you back time and time again.

I've never been on Dumbo

Not been to the Tiki Room since 1980 (I understand its now under new management :d: )

Its Tough to be A Bug...didn't want to push DD completely over the edge as we had already traumatised her quite enough on dinosaur :confused2

Maharajah Jungle Trek..DS went to this with my Dad but the rest of us stayed to watch Pochahontas show instead

Playhouse Disney Live show (DD wasnt allowed to take her popcorn in with her last time so she decided to skip the show...she does love her popcorn though :D )

The Mummy at Universal (DD was too small last time..might still be as she is 47 1/2" in her bare feet at the moment... so I stayed off with her)

Dr Dooms Fearfall - DS & DD both too small last time and I had no great urge to do this.

Other stuff that is new since we were last there is

Soarin
Stitch
Everest
Turtle Talk

Also going to Cirque Du Soleil and Disney Quest for the first time

Each to their own I guess, there is so much in WDW that there's something for everyone. But I do personally love American Adventure - and Spaceship Earth too. In fact, they epitomise what Epcot is meant to be about as far as I'm concerned. Those, and the film shows in Canada and China, and all the other pavilions. But as you say, it's not for everyone though.

The world and its history according to the US - it's a bit like the storyline in Spaceship Earth, the Egyptians were ok, the Romans etc fine but America came along and made it all better.:confused2
I'm confused there - I read that ride a totally different way. All of the earlier stages of SSE positively celebrate the development of non-verbal communication around the world. America only gets a mention in the last few scenes, covering the final couple of hundred years in fact ('cos the USA wasn't around before then!). And to be fair on them, they did rather drive many of the more recent industrial & technical concepts forward (even though they may not have invented them).

That - is NOT what Walt Disney wanted I'm pretty sure (good as I'm born:pgig: )
To be honest, I rather think it's exaclty what Walt would have wanted - he was very patriotic (to the exteme in some cases) and all of the attractions we're talking about at the moment are direct descendants of Great Moments with Mr Lincoln, which was a project driven personally by Walt. Whether you agree with the ideals of what he, and these other newer rides, have to say is another matter of course - and perhaps one that's best left to be discussed elsewhere lest we end up starting a political flame war.

Just my $0.02 worth, anyway.

Interesting that so many people by pass the American Adventure....but can I highly recommend the Voices of Liberty that is the pre-show to this. It's for lovers of 4 part harmony and alright it's very American and schmaltzy (!) but they are very very good......they only appear during the daytime and timings are in the daily insert to the park map..........and they come and chat afterwards too......You'll be surprised how many watch them and then leave the building without watching the American Adventure.

You get the Kitchen Sink at Beaches and Cream at Disney's Yacht & Beach Club which is opposite Boardwalk (you can either walk from Epcot or get the shuttle boat) :)

In all the times I've been to Magic Kingdom (both Florida and California) I have never been on the Paddle Steamer!! Don't know why, just never done it!! Oh, and I'm another one who hasn't been in the Hall of Presidents.

Never done the circus thing at DTD as don't like clowns.

Cirque de Soliel isn't a circus by our standards at all, and I don't really recall seeing clowns at any point as we know them. Yes there are some 'funny people' but not the usually painted faces and big hair type that we stereotype them. :)

I have done American adventure, hate the 'America surpasses all other countries' but I think it is excellently done and always get a tear in my eye when two brothers plays  the civil war must have been a terrible time for split families..

never done country bears, or the shooting arcade (if it is still there)

playhouse Disney came too late for me but I did see how Disney ruined Doug funny :confused2

oh and I have never ever been over to Tom Sawyer island :omg:

It's just me and DW (now both 40 somethings) and we've done almost all of the rides and shows - we even seen Playhouse Disney! The few things I haven't done are mostly because of a major fear of hights. Astro-Orbitor, although I have been up in the lift to make sure that DW would go on the ride, then I chickened out :D (DW did the same to me at Back to the Future in US). I haven't been on Soarin' yet, although I might risk it this year (four weeks to go :d: ) if I can be on the lowest of the three levels. We both won't go on the spinning tea-cups, neither of us likes spinning and yet I've been on Mission Space and it's fantastic. I suspect those are the only ones I've not done, apart from those that have opened since last September (EE at Animal Kingdom).
I would recommend you try everything at least once, although I would find it hard to recommend the 'Stitch ride' - seen it once, never again. It's worse than the Alien Encounter that it 'replaced' and that was rubbish :pgig: (but at least it was scary!)

Hall of Presidents- Ahhh kill me now please.

Although I love the way the Americans are far more proud and patriotic than we are, It can be a bit hard to endure some of the blatant 'America is great and rules the world' type stuff at these attractions) OK if you're a Yank and can generally blot out truth and historical detail, but a bit stomach churning for people of any other nation.
