hi,
I was wondering if anyone had any advise or helpful hints on nappy changes for a large 3 year old child. I'm primaraily concerned about the toilets on the plane, as I last remember them to be those drop down type changers, and I think that she may be too big/heavy for those now.
I do remember that the parks were good for baby change areas, but I wanted to be sure that she would still be able to fit, or if not do any of the parks have a designated areas for guests with disabilites?
many thanks in advance

Why don't you try Huggies pull ups, they may be easy to do rather than nappies!

Tesco own brand pull ups are ok as well.

Thats not too bad an idea, if she's only wet :confused2 .
As she can't stand up very well either, plus I do also get nappies for free now, so I least don't have to worry about the cost.

Nappy changes for bigger kids on the plane are tricky unless you can manage standing up. There is very little room to move in the aircraft loos.

We use a double pad system for our DS with special needs so we can remove the liner fairly easily if necessary and there is less chance of leakage. I change him just before boarding and usually just need to remove the liner midflight. It may be worth contacting your continence adviser or GP for advice on products you could use, even using a higher absorbancy of pad for the journey might help.

In the parks we find First Aid is the best place for changing, the locations are marked on park maps. They have full size beds and disposal facilities and the staff are always very friendly. It helps to have a quiet place to do this in privacy and comfort.

I would suggest trying to do as much changing standing up before the holiday, our boy (5) holds onto us as he cant stand up on his own, then we change him and its hard but it gets easier. And yes even if he has done more than a wet one as we find alot of toilets in the uk next to useless so we are having to do standing up changes as a matter of course

Another point, have you thought of getting a radar key? as we find it easier to have the key and use a disabled toilet and then use a mat on the floor. they only cost a couple of pounds and its better than hoping to find someone to open the disabled toilets for you

I can totally understand your problem. Although DS2 can stand on his own and does not need pads now trying to get into a plane toilet with him is really difficult let alone trying to change him. It gets harder as he gets older too.

Sister-in-law is a special needs teacher and she changes the kids whilst they are standing up.

Hope you manage to sort it although I'm sure you will be fine. Once you are in Florida you will find everything really accommodating for our kids.

i work with disabled children some of whom are severly disabled. I would echo the advice for the plane to change standing up if possible & I know it isn't always. But i don't think at 3 your DD will be too heavy for the tables as she won't be on long. Provided you are OK to lift her. If not a mat or towel on the floor not ideal I know.

The double pad would work for the long journey & I think at the parks you shouldn't have too much of a problem.

Well our son is 5 now and if we go in a baby changing room we will use the pull down tables and he isnt too heavy for it. Although we only do that if its more than wet.
