View Full Version : Hotel Laundry
Somehow this year I was able to stretch out my clothes for the full 2 weeks, only having to buy one item to help me get through.
Next year though, we're going for 3 weeks and I'd prefer to take less - personally, found that two or three items were the most comfortable & would have loved to wear these again & again.
How do hotel laundrys work? By this, I don't mean pricey hotel service - but the washers/dryers that the guests can use themselves.
Coin operated? Or usually free use, but have to buy detergent?
How do you then dry your clothes? Not confident with tumble dryers - worried it'll just shrink everything & I can't afford my clothes to be any tighter !!! :confused2
Help will be appreciated - thanks !!!
We stayed at the Quality Inn Plaza and I used the laundry room a couple of times. The machines were operated by tokens, a token machine was in the laundry room. I did have problems getting it to accept notes on one occasion, but was able to get tokens at reception. I bought washing powder from a supermarket. One dryer was fine, nothing shrank, anything that was unsuitable to go in the dryer I hung in the room and bathroom and it dried overnight.
Hope this is some help.

We've used quite a few, they mostly seem to be coin operated and need quarters. I usually take a few laundry tablets with me and do at least one loads whilst we are away.
I always tumble dry everything at home and do the same on hols - I haven't ever shrunk anything. i hang a few special garments but not much.

Agree with above! I take either some powder or tablets with me and then use the machines and tumble driers in the hotel. We only ever take about 3 outfits each and I do washing while we are there and then buy new stuff out there!!

Yep, take your own tablets and Breeze sheets (if you use them) as they are quite expensive and the brand didnt seem to work very well (Tide). Like Bev, I chuck most everything in the drier (even though certain UK shops seem to make only non tumble dry clothes) and have never had a disaster! The machines themselves need 4 quarters in each washer and drier. Dont use the smaller machines (that look like our UK washing machines) as they are pants - try to snag one of the big top loading mothers :D...you can get tons in these and they wash a lot better.
Also, the driers operate on a time period (dozey me didnt realise this and put in a heap of damp clothes and sat there for an hour - they would have been done in half that time and came out quite crispy :D) - one drier can often do 2 loads on the same coins.
Used the laundry at Best Western Lakeside. The machines worked on tokens and had a notice to say how long each cycle took,so went to the pool close by and just went back to change stuff into dryer.Would say be careful with dryers though as if you use the hot setting things do shrink, they dry much hotter than in UK.Also agree about the washing powder their stuff doesnt work aswell, would take my own washing tablets.

We have used them a fair bit with the kids and all....word of warning though when we were there in December we got, what appeared to be ink/dye, on all our washing....all different colours....there were small blobs of coloured ink on pretty much everything :(

we've always used the laundry facilities, but i take own washing tabs with me because I find every expensive for just a couple of washes, also had to be careful what I use...
00swan did you check out the laundry in Hampton Inn by any chance????

are there launderettes on international drive, it would be good to just drop off clothing and pick up the next day? (i'm a lazy mare)
00swan - i'm so glad you asked this question!
I was wondering exactly the same thing but was too embarassed to ask in case i was the only person who'd never used a hotel laundry before!
Now i know i'm not alone i feel more confidant i won't shrink and change the colour of everything!!!!

No sorry, only to pass it feeling very smug that I didn't have to use it !!! Guess that will come back to haunt me next year !!!
Pretty sure there was one on each floor though, never seemed very busy.

Daft really, isn't it !?!?!?
But, since I've never used a laundromatte in this country either, I just don't know what to expect.
I use sensitive washing powder at home, so think I'll take some advice & pack a small bundle of tablets in the suitcase.
Never used a tumble dryer in my life though - do you really need "sheets"? Are they to make things softer ??

I think they make things softer and smell nice but personally I don't use them - OMG, i've just made myself sound like the worlds worst, most useless housewife!!!:omg: :pgig:

We always stop in a villa and i love washing, even if we are not going to wear the item again on that holiday I just love washing!!! do some washing every day at home i find it therapeutic and love the smell of freshly washed laundry.

I never use a washing line and tumble dry everything I can - reason everything comes out softer and fluffier but ONLY if you use Bounce (tumble dryer sheets) or equivalent. If not, they tend to come out stiff as a board:(
They alse double up nicely as fragrance sheets for wardrobes and drawers:thumbs-up

with 2 small children we always end up using the services of the laundry. My DH plays in pool with kids while i sort it all out. Never had a problem but generally take powder from home.

I agree.
Hotel machines can never match a villa machine, and you can wash and go.............without fear of any scunners lifting it!

it's just the perfect end to the day, load of washing in the machine, few games of pool, darts, basketball or arcade games that are in the villa, little boy bathed and ready for bed. I even wash all the towels and bedding even though they leave laundry bags for these!!!!

I could give Anthea Turner a run for her money that's for sure!!! problem is my excessive tidiness is mainly caused by OCD, it's my way of being in 'control', even my little boy is excessively clean and I know it's starting to rub off on him so I try to be more 'secret' about it but it's hard :confused2

I am the same but in Disney's laundries. :erm:
I get very anxious if the washing basket gets full at home, I wash all the time. I think that's why our washer never lasts except this time we got a Miele with 20 years guarantee;)
I tumble dry everything I can too.

We used the hotel laundry on both our previous trips. They were coin-operated with quarters and though we don't tumble dry everything at home we did most things when we were away as there isn't much room to dry stuff in a hotel room. We bought soap powder from a machine in the laundry room (single use) but you could bring your own if you wanted.

I must admit to even washing clothes just before we come home, so that my suitcase does not get filled up with dirty items (e.g. knickers, swimsuits).
Am I the only one to do this??
