Yeah, I know there are a few obvious ideas but would like some personal recommendations for Washington (I've never been before). Also, will be staying near Cambridge in Minnesota for a few days. Already got suggestions from the family I'll be seeing but wondered if anyone has visited that part of the State and can recommend anything. Before you say it, we will be going to "Mall of America" which is the largest shopping mall in the world with a theme park in the middle, all under roof. Gonna be spectacular!

Hi,

We visited Washington DC last year as DH has family there, and we spent 3 days there. There's loads to see, you can book an open top bus tour of the city where you can hop on and off at various places, you can see all the war memorials etc. We also took a trip out to see George Washington's house which was worth a visit. Not sure how you'd get there without a car though, we were taken by family.

Sorry don't know anything about Minnesota.

Went through Minnesota on the train back in June & was knocked out by how beautiful the scenery was.
They call it the 'Land of 1000' lakes but it's probably more like 10,000.
If you've ever read the 'Little House' books by Laura Ingalls Wilder you can visit where she lived in Walnut Grove & see the site of their dugout home.
There is a museum in the town that contains items from the TV show, according to the website.
If you contact the stae tourist dept they will be more than happy to send you a guide & state maps FOC.
Have not done DC since 2001 butthere are plenty of museums to visit that will suit all ages & the best thing is that they are free!

Hi I was in Washington DC a couple of years a go. im sure fellow dibbers will have plenty of sugestions. There are loads of museums. Our favourite at the time was the Air and Space Museum. We did a trolley tour. Visited Arlinton Cemetry. Very moving. Also did another tour in the evening. Brought us to a couple of momuments. Think the tour group was called Tourmobile. it was a informative yet informal tour. DC has a good subway for getting around. a couple of malls are easily accessible. We found places closed early- like McDonalds, Wendys (just for example) closed early in the evening. Geogretown was good for a stroll around! Have a great trip and please do a trippie!!

Hey! I live just north of Minnesota/North Dakota and people from around here are ALWAYS going down to the Twin Cities for weekends, or holidays. Its a beautiful state. As someone had already said, Minnesota is known as the "land of 10,000 lakes" (as mentioned on their license plate), but the actual number is closer to 15,000! The Mall of America is great, and there is a water park across the street in a hotel called "The Grand Lodge" called the "Water Park of America" which is fun too. Not sure what time you're visiting, but there is also the Minnesota Zoo in Apple Valley (southern suburb), and Valleyfaire in Shakopee. There are many other malls in the area, and many people from Winnipeg like the Outlets at Albertville which are located just up I-94 about 30 minutes from Minneapolis. Tons of sporting events if you're into that sort of thing (Twins-baseball, Vikings-football, Wild-hockey, Timberwolves-basketball, etc)... I'm sure theres more I might think of, but also try to take in the beautiful lakes and forests. Giants Ridge Ski Area is also fun, but its over 200 miles north of Minneapolis. I'll see if I can think of more! We love Minnesota as it reminds us alot of home, and our cabin! It's a wonderful state.

Hi! Washington DC is a great place to visit. The Air & Space Museum is a must as is the Lincoln Memorial & the White House ( although you have to book the latter in advance & be cleared through the embassy). Arlington National Cemetery can be done on the hop on hop off bus tour.

You also get a great view from the top of the Washington Monument.

The DC Duck tour is fun. It starts out as a bus tour & then drives into the Potomac & becomes a boat trip !
