I do...never trust anybody with my hols completely...better safe than sorry !
I made contact with my hotel several months ago to double check things I had asked my travel organiser to do.
I have saved, worked and planned too hard for my hols to go wrong at someone elses hands.
PS..it has been said by others though I strongly disagree that I may be a bit of a control freak !! :omg:

i emailed the hotel we were supposed to be staying in last year to organise the same room we stayed in the year before, its a good job i did as i found out the hotel was being sold and we wouldn't be staying there before mytravel did.

I have done in the past and found that travel agents hadn't passed on vital details of the booking. It's always best to check for yourself.

I would call your travel company to confirm, and say what the hotel has told you. I'm sure they'll sort it out for you.

yes definately, the first time we went got to hotel and were given a smoking room because according to hotel Virgin told them thats what we asked for.We certainly didnt ,I suspect someone pressed the wrong button when the reservation was made.So it always pays to check directly with the hotel, also dont rely on requests made via expedia ,as we found out in the summer the hotels dont take ay notice of them either.

I just phoned the company we're booked with and they said we're booked to the ninth and my confirmation confirms that so take it to them and if there's any problems get them to phone the travel company.
I don't understand it mind you the girl (hotel girl) didn't understand me too well.

We like to be in contact with our guests right up to when they go and we usually phone them when the day after they land to make sure all is Ok and then they have our number to ring or our MCs if they need anything after that:)

Just emailed our hotel to confirm reservations, never usually do this but never used alpharooms before so does not hurt to be safe.
Also good to put in requests such as ground floor rooms etc as agents although they take these requests are notorious for not passing them on....
Just wait to hear from them now hopefully no problems and everything is booked as should be...
I rang last year as I read on here that someone else staying at Cypress Pointe, who had booked through hotelkingdom.com (like us) had turned up to find no evidence of being booked in there! I rang and they confirmed we were booked in.
Normally, so long as I have something in writing with my name, the hotel's name and the right dates, I don't bother. Too trusting???

It never hurts to be absolutly sure as we have heard tales of people booking places and when they arrived they had nowhere to go

Well everything seems to be fine. I've contacted FGS again and they said everything is fine they said should it not be to contact them right away. So yeah, crisis averted...Phew.

Yes I always do as I tend to request a good room, view etc so def worth emailing conformation.
At the end of day you would never loose anything by doing it but potentially could run into trouble if you don't!
Glad you got it sorted by the way!

We are booked with virgin but I still sent a fax direct to the hotel just to confirm the members of our party and our special requirements. My DD is asthmatic so we definitely want a non-smoking room. Never received a reply but hoping it arrived ok. At least I tried.:wavey:
