Hi,

Can anyone advise me on the American sizes for ladies jeans? I usually buy a size 14 in UK.

Which shops would you recommend? I was going to try Gap, but any suggestions would be great.

We walked past World of Denim lots of times last year, but never went in.

Thanks

Gap is my favourite place for jeans, I've built up a collection of around 10 pairs over the past few years and they're still going really strong. I am a 14 here and a 10-12 in Gap over there. They have a store at the premium outlets and LBV outlets. Also Guess, I'm a 31 I think from there, they do some nice jeans.

A US size 12 would be about right. Most of the shops have UK and US size charts on display. Be prepared to try a few different styles, there are lots of different shapes and the fit can be different to what we are used to. DD got a few pairs half price from VF outlet store at LBV factory stores, there's also a Gap outlet right next door.

I just don't get american sizes at all.

So how do you get sizes 0, 2, 4 etc????? surely they in the uk would be a 2,4 and 6????????????????? Is anyone really that small? And I am talking about Gap, they had some fab combats in the ladies section, sizes 0, 2, up to about an 8. Now I'm afraid that would not even fit round my leg never mind my backside!!!!

I gave up in the end!

Go to any of the big outlet malls or even to Florida Mall or to the big Western store at Festival Mall (Settlers I think) and let the sales assistants help you.
You will be amazed at the savings you are making:grin:

Best advice would be just to try them on.....doesnt matter what size you are then. Whatever fits you - you can buy them!!

You are best to try them on. As others have said, you will be a size smaller in USA.

The VF Outlet @ Lake Buena Vista Outlet is brilliant. I got
Lee Jeans $6.99
Wrangler Jeans $8.99

I also like Tommy Hilfiger. My jeans from there were $24.99

I always thought that the dress/clothing sizes are 2 different i.e. 14 UK = 10 US??
Certainly I bought three pairs of Levi's in World of Denim last year ($29 a pair, bargain!) and they are size 4 - NO WAY am I a size 6 here!!
Maybe as posted above, you have to try everything on?

My DW who is knee high to a grasshopper likes to buy her jeans from Macy's at Florida Mall, she is of the opinion they fit her the best.

I am pretty certain that the sizes go down by 2 sizes as I am a UK 6-8 and wear a US 2-4....I could be wrong but that is what I fit into.

(By the way, I am not mega skinny....!) I am petite as I am only 4'11''!!

Even Wal-mart have a good selection of the trditional brand names; Levi's wranglers etc and a broad range of styles and colours! (Between $11 and $20 a pair). I know it sounds a bit naff, but they had many of the same jeans as the more expensive stores at a lower price on these types of brands.

Def try them on, the cuts are also proportionatly different, they allow for a larger hip compared to the waist, but the staff everywhere are very helpful.

World of denim is great for levis, i bought a size 11 and usually wear a 12 or 14 at home depending on the shop, they fit fine and were cheap.

I remember when my friend first moved from the US to UK she asked her b/f about clothes sizes and he said you'd probably be about a size 10 (she's a US 6). This really upset her as she didn't realise there was such a big difference, she thought he was telling her she's fat, she cried on the phone to her mom saying he thinks she's in 'double digits' ... bless her.

I'm a 12 and love it because I'm an 8 in the US lol
