Just been doing some planning for next september and this is what I read on the Kissimmee Rodeo website:
The rodeo is now closed but the arena is still available for rental. If you have a wedding, family reunion, class reunion or group event ...........
Does anyone know if this is a permenant descision or a seasonal thing ? We were hoping to do this next year !
i read about this closing and from what i remember it is permanent.
we went to see the rodeo 2 years ago.

It closed on our last day, 1st September. We only knew because there was a piece in the Orlando Sentinel - when we went to the rodeo 2 weeks earlier there was no mention at all about it closing down. As I read it the closure did appear to be permanent - I'll see if we still have the paper later to check.

Thanx everyone for all your input here ........ we have a spare evening in our schedule now !!!!! maybe do a bit of pirate golf at Old Town instead LOL
There are two rodeo's in kisimmee....a big one on the outskirts that has national rodeos there and a smaller one behind the airport...which is the one I suspect has closed.

There is another weekly rodeo not far from Kissimmee, down in Lakes County [Bok Tower Gardens area].
I happened to find out about it by chance as I have a Lakes County brochure.
Its based at a resort and they also do airboat rides as well.
May be of interest to somebody.

The resort in question is called Westgate River Ranch.

The Silver Spurs is the bigger one ( well...I suppose it's the only one now! ) and hosts national rodeo circuit events.
The smaller one was pretty poor ( IMHO ) and never seemed to have a great deal of atmosphere anyway.
It's not a place we'd have visited twice.....but it's still a pity that no-one has the option any longer........ :-(

Mike I have to agree. We once went in 2002 and it was poor. Most of the local kids were more interested in playing football at the back of the stands, and the young lads showing off in front of the girls.....as they do.
I do understand that the show was what we would class as Club/Junior Level, but like yourself, theres no way we would have gone twice.
I did once say I thought it was poor and the response I got made me feel we must have gone on a bad night.
The Silver Spurs rodeo must be some spectacle though, it is regarded as one of the top ten rodeos in the US.

Nope...I think any night would be poor from our experience of the Kissimmee rodeo!
Having said that we miss the Silver Spurs rodeo by about 10 days this time......ggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
It attracts all the top riders and has over $100,000 in prize money....sounds excellent!
Shame we'll miss out on it.................:o:
