Hi,
There have been a few threads with questions regarding the DIBB Chat Room, so I am making this announcement rather than address each individual thread.

The DIBB Chat room will only open for organised chats.

The reason for this is I think people forget that this is a FAMILY orientated site, we have lots of children that use this site, mine included.

Having monitored the Chat for sometime it is clear that the chat room was being used for adult style chat including foul language and sexual content.

THIS is a FAMILY Site and I will not provide something that is only going to be misused.

If you miss the Chat room because you honestly enjoyed normal chats that didn't include foul language, personal and very graphical comments, flirting or sex talk, then I'm sorry that this feature is no longer available for you. Unfortunately without monitoring the service 24/7 I have no way of keeping the content clean from those that forget that this is a family site.

I feel sad that some members couldn't use the chat for clean friendly chats because others brought very adult discussions to the chat.

one we monitored, users had changed their chat-names to VERY VERY Adult names and the whole discussion was all about what they would be doing to each other in very graphical xxxx text.
Another we monitored included Santa with his trousers down and a jar of ointment !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know it's probably funny for those involved and it's all in good spirits, however the DIBB Chat is open to anyone, not just the over 18's

I have already seen comments like "Come and use my chat room" by a couple of members, by all means do so but please do not advertise those chat rooms here on this site, and please do not let conversations you had in those chats spill out onto these forums.

There are thousands of free chat rooms available, google will find most of them.

In the new year we will try and organise more regular chats. If you wish to organise a chat yourselves then by all means do so and I will open the chat for you to do so.
You can organise the chat on anything you like, I think someone said "we were only going to have organised chats so we could tell you what you had to chat about" well that person was totally wrong.

My only condition is that the chat, whatever the topic is, is kept clean and suitable for the family
hopefully you'll agree that is not an unreasonable request - after all this is a family site.

Regards
Stu

Such a pity it has gone this way yet again. This is the reason I stay out and will only do the Sunday chats. Sad that having been told before, some people continue to do this and spoil it for others.

I use the chat room regularly and have never seen behaviour like this but if it is going on then I totally agree with your descision.

Perhaps excluding the people concerned for a short time would have been fairer as now we are all missing out.

A wise move Stu - I appreciate that some people like to have fun in chat but as you said this is a family site and there are plenty of other opportunities for adult chat outside the Dibb. It's just a shame that this behaviour has spoilt it for the rest

"that person" Was me, don't worry I won't take umbrage, at my age I've got better this to think about, anyway the comment was tongue in cheek hence the smiley.

Hi Paul,
wasn't having a go at you or anyone else for that matter, just a bit ticked off at the moment with parts of the site being used for content that is not suitable for family viewing.
It might look as though I'm trying to spoil everyone's fun but the ethos of this site is and has always been to be a family friendly site.

Just enjoyed a nice organised chat :D
I've never personally experienced anything too 'adult' going on in the chatroom, but surely members should understand that is not on when this is a family site. The few always spoil it for the many :(

Blimey wasnt even aware that 'that' sort of thing went on on the Dibb!

Fully support your decision tho Stu - I have a DD who often reads over my shoulder whilst I am Dibbing (although I presume the adult chats were in an empty chat room?)

:omg: I had no idea that 'that' sort of chat was occuring Stu, fortunately I never had the misfortune to be in chat when conversations of that nature were taking place.
It's a shame that once again a minority of members have resulted in all members losing an enjoyable facility :mad2:
One of the great assets of The Dibb is the fact that it truely is a family site and I support any measures that you deem necessary to keep it that way Stu.

I could never get the chat room to work properly for me.
