Yeah, I joined too, it is excellent. I had also joined the Cruise Critic forum, but they weren't as friendly as here or the Dis. I'm going mid Sept - its my little brother's 21st. It is nice to know who is going from here, as there seems to be not that many of us who have been or are going.

Is there a big group of you going? Just the three of us, me , hubby and son who is 7.

Are you doing any excursions? All of them seem to be swimming with sting rays - not a chance of that for me:nonono: ewk!

I havent paid for it yet - I was going to two weeks ago when the exchange rate was good but kept hanging on and now its gone down again:( .

I am going with my DH in April 2008. My 50th birthday :omg: .

We are doing the 7 night western cruise ( our first cruise).
have been reading up all I can, got the Passporter and looked at all the Cruise forums.
Still got to plan the rest of the trip to go with the cruise.

I would just like to say 'Happy Cruising' to everyone who is going, and can they please post a thread to say how they got on.

There are 4 of us going, me, little brother, sister and nephew, who will be 10 while in WDW. The only excursion we are planning is the Dolphin swim at Nassau. With it only being a 4 day cruise and having just done 14 night WDW this is for pure relaxation. I was reading a trip report the other day that said throughout the day at Castaway Cay there were Stingrays just swimming around the beaches.

Are you going to decorate your door? I've seen some of the pics on the Dis and I would love to do this. Help me find my way 'home' after a couple of cocktails.

We are staying in two staterooms (the snorers and the non snorers!!! lol). Me and bro in Cat 7 stateroom 7128 and sis and nephew in cat 12. But we have requested that they be on the same deck as us.

Oh, gosh, I could go on for hours about this cruise and its still 8 months away!!! :pgig:

We are decorating our door - seperate poster for each day - pirate, formal, castaway etc. Just an a4 paper with printables etc. Our cabin is on the kids club floor so its easier to find my way "home". Less cabins on that floor and I have chosen the last one before you fall off the back of the ship:pgig: Hopefully I'll remember to stop and not keep walking:erm:

We are cat 11 - not bothered about a window for an extra £***.

I bought hubby the passporter for xmas (it was for me really!:pgig: ). Havent started it yet though. We also have birnbaums too.

I decided on the cat 7 as I was worried I would feel claustrophobic, don't normally but got this idea in my head. Also as it is little bro's 21st he said that he would want one to sit and have roomservice brekkies on watching the sun come up. Who am I to say no to him! The stateroom I have chosen is right next to the secret verhandah which was also a big draw as well as the sectret staircase up to the beach blanket buffet.

Wow ! excellent choice of cabin :cool2:

Throughly recommend you take the room service breakfast - as it will free up more time (.....and space in your tummy, for lunch and dinner:tounge: ). Meals can actually become a bit of a marathon - especially if you have the 'early dinner' seating. :confused2

Initially we had intended going the whole hog and getting the dresses. However on reading a few posts I have found that there is not so much effort put into formal night on a 4 night cruise. Also, with having 14 nights at wdw didn't want to be taking up too much space on 1 meal. So we are totally undecided. However my brother is taking his kilt with him, but they are inseparatable when he goes anywhere:pgig:

I know what you mean - its having room in the case for it all:( . Hubby was going to get a tux but we've decided against it. He doesnt even have to take a jacket according to other threads - just a shirt and tie and smart trousers, so lots of room for other stuff in the case instead:thumbs-up

Hope its not windy on deck or the other passengers could see a lot more than just your brothers kilt:omg: :omg: :pgig: :pgig:

And then there was 7. I'm so excited about those of us who are going on the cruise. I think because on the Dis site it seems like everyone has been on about a zillion times. But there seem to be fewer of us UK folks going that it feels even more special. I must admit that I had not even heard about the Disney Cruises till spring last year.

Tinkershell, it would have been so great to have known that a fellow Dibber was onboard at the same time. ;)

Add me, Add me

Just booked a 3 night cruise on Disney Wonder for the 16th August for me (obviously!) Dh, DD11 & DD1. I can't wait and am so excited it's untrue!!

We have decided not to tell DD 11 about the cruise as she will spill the beans to DMIL, who is a cruise fanatic and will never forgive us for not taking her (and, believe me, that is NOT and option!) So I can't babble on about it to anyone now as DH has got to the eye rolling stage when I mention it - which is, admittedly, very often :d:

We are flying over with Virgin on 12th August, spending a few days at our villa before and after the cruise and then flying home on the 23rd.

How fab !! we kept our first cruise a secret from the kids...we never breathed a word (and I can't tell you how difficult it was :confused2 )...simply told them we were going to the coast for a few days (not lying really !)...
When we got in the car to go, we told the kids it was a long journey and we'd take plenty of stops.....as we approach the port it was a very foggy morning so they didn't see much of the ship. When they did see it I said there was a museum there (there isn't one) and that I fancied going round it. We managed to dispose of our suitcases by saying they had to be security checked due to 9/11. Then we got into the building and the kids were occupied looking at the TV screens there that run cartoons, whilst I bought our 'museum tickets'....and incredibly, they were still none the wiser.

When I came back I told my eldest son that it was bad news the museum was closed ...but that the man at the desk had asked me to give him a note (it was our boarding card) and I asked him to read it out...the look on his face when he read out "Welcome aboard ..your stateroom 2514 will ready at 1.30pm..Bon Voyage !".......well, I will show you (he's the one in the red by the way !)......

LOL! I don't think we would get away with that with DD! Our current plan is to tell her we are going to Cocoa beach for a couple of days and then surprise her en-route with the DCL tickets. Although DH want's to wait until we are at the port I don't think I will be able to keep up the pretence that long!

What time does everyone recommend we leave Orlando / arrive at the port for boarding?

My DH and DS swum with the sting rays at Castaway Cay. They had an excellent time. There is a net around the area where the stingrays are and they were told that most days the stingrays stings are checked and clipped, just like clipping your toenails, it doesnt hurt them. They were asked to feed them and then had a chance to swim with them. There is also a snorkelling area which has been mapped out. You can wear your own snorkelling equipment but must hire the disney vests/floats. I think it is because they are brightly coloured and the lifeguards can see you more clearly. I was also told that there is a barrier around the swimming lagoon in Castaway Cay which does not allow some of the larger fish like sharks dolphin and stingrays to get through. It is a beautiful island though and that BBQ is lovely.:)

Get there for port opening if you can 10.30am ...that way you should be able to get one of the first boarding cards .....and that should get you onboard before 12 noon. We boarded at 11.45am - but it can vary as it depends how quickly they have got everything ready from the morning set of guests departure.

Then your cruise can begin !!!! :spin:

The first place to head for is one of the buffet restaurants ,then the hit the pools if the weather is good (it is one of the quietest times to use them ). You don't have access to your cabin or luggage till after 1.30pm so put your swim things in your hand luggage (towels are available by the pools).

It takes about an hour to get to the port from Orlando - a very easy drive & signs to the ship are easy to follow - there are big roadside boards which are lit up with yourship's name on it.

PS If you do arrive a little early, there is a carpark just opposite the terminal entrance where you can wait till it opens.

We arrived at around 11.00am, Boarding doesnt commence until 12.30 ish but you will need to officially check in even if you have done it online and collect your room cards. If you have children, even though you may have booked into the club over the internet, you will have the chance to pick up your pager and set a password. There is a small cafe area and a TV with cartoons and you can go outside onto a balcony to see the ship. You are given a boarding card with a number on and they call them out in turn.

We did not bother with any excursions - plenty to see & do without...so do not feel compelled to sign up if they are not really your sort of thing.

We took ourselves off to the Pirate Museum (with pub & shop attached !) in Nassua (cheap and just long enough if you know what I mean ;) ) - its just a short walk from the ship and highly recommended if youhave pirate mad kids. They also sell a good array of pirate gear if you haven't bought any along for the pirate's night dinner aboard the ship. :d:

We are going to be doing the dolphin swim, but I am worried that by doing this we won't have enough time to look round the rest of Nassau. Has anyone don the swim and what did they think of it? Also is is Nassau where poor Anna Nicole Smith is buried?

Just thought I'd mention that we wondered how formal you had to be to go into Palo. My DH had not taken a jacket as we are not ones for dressing up a lot and it seemed a big bulky item for just one meal and so he just wore a shirt and tie which many men did in there as it was quite hot. However if we had gone on the 7 day he would have packed one.

The cruise was wonderful but there was just one bug bear that I feel I should warn you about and which I think is unneccessary. I booked for a massage and although I was expecting to have to leave a tip, 20% is expected, I was not expecting the hard sell of the products they used. I know it is probably drilled into the masseurs that they do this but we are talking about maybe $150 dollars worth of stuff and if you are on a budget it is just inaffordable and I felt the sales talk was just a little bit pushy. I think that they should take a tip from the DVC sellers who were not like that at all.

All in all though it was a lovely trip well it must have been because I have booked again!!;)

Yes it is where ANS is buried.

Don't stress about the Dolphin excursion - there is not a whole lot to see in Nassau that is that attractive...unless going up to the Atlantis Hotel is your thing .....but that is very costly !!:omg:

My partner wore a shirt /tie and tidy trousers, proper shoes...and I actually thought he looked slightly over dressed at the brunch we went to at Palo.

We regretted the space in our suitcase that this gear had taken up really .....I think as long as you don't turn up in swimming trunks, flip flops, Hawiian shirts etc..they are fairly relaxed !

I read a couple of threads on the Dis Cruise board, where loads of people were complaining about people not dressing to the 'code'. I like you don't want to have to pack loads more stuff for the cruise if it is not really needed. Having to bring along 14 days worth of luggage and souveniers from WDW also will upset me.

They get very het up over the whole 'dress code' thing! Personally I enjoy dressing up for formal nights and Palo at dinner ...its part of the holiday form us. At Brunch in Palo I think its a little more casual, though still not a 't shirt and shorts' place :) I have seen people turned away for wearing jeans or shorts in Palo.

I agree though when you're taking clothes for the whole 2 weeks it gets very difficult packing all those clothes......not to mention the shoes!!!!!!:confused2 ;)

Hi Kev

We booked with DreamsUnmlimitedTravel based in the US. Very good company and do a lot of discounts. The earlier you book though the cheaper it is. As soon as you confirm with a deposit they give you a reference no to log onto Disney Cruise Lines.

A nice touch also was a gift box they left us in the cabin on our arrival.

why will you have to cancel your flights Mich?:confused2 :erm:

Michelle
12 Mar 07, 01:29 PM
Because I have been reading some not so nice things about globespan Mandy and it's really putting us off flying with them. So we might be cancelling the globespan ones, loosing the deposit and re-booking with Virgin....then I will have to cancel my cruise for next year as this is the money that we are loosing IYKWIM.

Tinkershell-That sounds awful as you're so excited about Cruise-Can you not fly TCD as much cheaper?Whats happening with Globespan anyway-Sorrry I dont know! x

Michelle
12 Mar 07, 09:10 PM
Sally, TCD only do 2 weeks flights, we need 3 weeks. I am not cancelling this years Cruise...it would be next years that I cancel.

Globespan are using 737's to go to SFB which means that they will have to be stopping off to re-fuel somewhere! My DH is a very nervous flyer so we always fly direct. We keep ringing Globespan and can never get a good enough answer from them wether they will be going back to their 767's or not, we have had enough, we just want to know we will be flying direct.

rylisal
13 Mar 07, 02:35 PM
Ok. I understand now-I would no way ever want to stop & re-fuel either!
See you've altered your flights to Virgin now from the other thread so thats great peace of mind for you! xx

They seem to have become really popular recently and we can't recommend them higly enough - we had an absolutely brilliant time when we went in Dec 2005

You can add us too....we will be doing our second DCL cruise on 26th Aug this year :d: . We went on one last April and it was fantastic, the best few days ever. We are in a cat 4 family stateroom (there are 5 of us).

Great that so many DIBBERS have discovered the wonders of the cruise, I remember last year only a handful of people on the DIBB had done it. Pricey but definitely worth it!!

Here are some pictures to whet your appetite (plus my avatar pic was taken on Castaway Cay)

Hello all you cruisers!!!

I started thinking (very dangerous I know) that this is a very special trip, and going on the Wonder will be the highlight of it, So, why not go the whole hog and really do something to make it a HUGE treat for all of us .....

I have just booked a round trip transfer from the villa to the port in a black stretch Limo! :D (booked with happy Limo's)

DH will be doing ALL the driving on our trip, so I thought what the hell, let him have a break, he can get chauffer driven to the ship then spend the next 4 days relaxing and sipping cocktails in preparation for going back to the villa for the rest of the holiday and driving us all hither thither and yon :d:

None of us have ever been in a Limo so this should be the icing on the cake :D

I am soooo excited I am beside myself! - however am I going to manage keeping all this a secret? Am now thinking that maybe i shouldnt tell them at all until the Limo actually arrives to pick us up? Or should i tell them on Xmas day and let them have a chance to get excited about the whole thing?

You can get your deposit back in full up to 75 days of sailing (don't you just love the American system of booking holidays - how I wish we could have that here in the UK  ).

The danger is by cancelling now, then waiting to rebook with a 10% discount on board is ;
a) the price of your cruise will most likely have risen and therefore you could well end up paying more.
It may even have risen / fallen though due to the exchange rate of the £/$ however...but bear in mind exchange rates are pretty good right now.
b) your choice of cabin, and even a particular cabin catagory availability, will be reduced.

Its a tough choice, but if you can I'd leave the deposit down, and not cancel until you really feel you have to.

Oh, it's been on going for a while!! We are already going on the Panama Canal cruise next May, our first ever cruise, something I thought John would never agree to. I used it being my 60th birthday trip and the Panama Canal to boot! It worked and I am so excited.

We also had booked an Orlando trip for Nov/Dec, and were planning on a week onsite, 4ish days offsite and a few days at RPR to end. Soooo, I began looking at the 4 day cruise for those offsite days back in February and working on asking for money for this years birthday so I could say it was for the deposit! Last week I approached a TA with some questions, and she went and did the provisional booking thing, which I didn't want her to do just yet. Anyway, I did in the end approach John, and after a few days mulling it over, working out how much more it would cost etc, he first said no. I cancelled the TA booking, but she just extended the timing!! Yesterday in conversation about my birthday this week I sort of informed John he would now have to buy a pressie, so today he emailed me from work and said book the cruise!!!

Thought you would like the long version!!!

We have such a great cruise group for the 2008 Repo, but I think this will be a quiet one for us, no extra spends, but we will get used to the ship ready for next year!:D

yay! how about the Western repo next May...there are some great people going! ;)

I wish to booking it as sound good also August when Cruise go to Florida from LA. That I want to booking it, unfortunately that dates are no good as kids are starting back to school on 17th August. I cannot believe that it was fast selling out!!!

Was thinking to booking Western repo but my husband said NO cos feel too much money after medi. cruise. Think it sold out now.

Hope he change his mind in July wink

We booked with Dreams Unlimited and they are very good and helpful with us and often us an interpreter again in July. We are very happy with it. Thump up to DCL.

Oh fingers crossed you should be fine then - if it doesnt work out and your put on a table with folks you would rather not be with then we are late sitting and requested 8pm. I emailed them and asked for a table just for the 4 of us as I didnt like the idea of sitting with stangers, but you can't call fellow Dibbers strangers can you? lol

Hopefully the ship will also have all of the christmas decorations up.:)

Mazzy I will be closely following your reports to see what the weather is like. I am hoping the ship will have decorations up then?

Jakki, I think you still travel before us.

Dawn - I'm not sure about the xmas decorations and when they first put them up. I did a search on the DIS and did find out that for early Jan, some people found them still up, and others said they were not, so I guess it's luck of the draw. Why not do a search on DIS, or start a new thread to see if you can find out when they usually put them up? :D

We are going late August in a cat.6 room and while we have been 15 times never done a Disney cruise(the last one was a 10 day Princess Caribbean cruise)really looking forward going on 23 August we can save on DVC points as it takes in the weekend cost of points (BCV).Would be interested to hear comments about food and entertainment.
