Can anyone reccomend cheap but good accomodation near Busch Gardens.

Our plan is to drive down early on either 25th or 26th May spend the day in BG - taking advantage of the extended opening hours (to 10pm), stay nearby for 1 night go back in for few hours next morning then drive to clearwater beach spend the afternonn there chilling and topping up tan then drive back early eve.

I've had a look on some websites but there are such mixed reviews, and some extremely poor ones. If anyone has stayed anywhere recently I'd welcome a few tips.

Cheers

Sorry can't recommend any, but I can un-recommend (is that a word) the Days Inn right across from Busch Gardens, it's TERRIBLE :(

The area around Busch Gardens isn't very nice and all the hotels look tacky IMHO. I would look for a nice place in Tampa or Clearwater,

 We ended up staying in the Hard Rock Hotel just near BG after having escaped hurricane charley. It was a fab experience seeing all the memorabilia and the swimming pool had under water music. We had checked out a few others in the area, but having seen Pshyco only recently it was worth a few dollars extra for no encounters with Norman!!!

We stayed at La Quinta Inn USF on E Fowler Ave. It is about 1 mile away from BG but up in the shopping district (as opposed to the seedy residential district which we drove around as we did not follow the directions properly) and would thoroughly recommend this hotel. We stayed there this October just gone. Just along the road from us was the University Mall and we stayed in there until closing time of 9pm, went back to the hotel for a swim and hot tub before going to bed and returning to BG the morning after.

Once we knew where we were driving wise, it took us 5 mins to get back to BG from our hotel. We paid £49.61 for the 4 of us for the night and that included a continental breakfast (cereals, muffins, bagels, waffles, yoghurts, fresh fruit, tea, coffee and juices).

we stayed in the Baymont which is opposite BG,it is cheap and cheerful but perfectly adequate for a nights kip and included breakfast.
Some of the reviews we read werent complimentary but we found it clean and were quite happy.
Some american review sites have a lot of grumbles on them ,the americans seem to expect 5 star service for budget prices
