 I really want to go riding but the only place near is @ Wilderness Lodge. Do you think they wouold let people who aren't staying there still do this?

We don't have a car so would only be able to get there via the Disney buses.

Fort Wilderness do horse riding too, and yes you can book if you're not staying there.

Are you sure that wilderness lodge do horseriding? It's just that DD did a horseride and the only place I know of on disney property is where she went, which was fort wilderness. It's not an adventurous ride, it's just walking along basically, so if you wanted something more than that I would look outside Disney.

No, got it wrong it must be Fort Wilderness. I did post question quite late last night so probably not thinking straight!

We won't have a car so wouldn't be able to get to the other stables as I have already looked at them, they seem to have better rides though - thanks.

Clare - where are you staying? If you want to price up a taxi from your hotel to the horseworld stables, just go to www.mearstransportation.com You will see they have a fare calculator, so you can find out if it's within your budget or not.

Fort Wilderness do it and you can go there even if you're not staying onsite.

Clare, if you're an advanced rider I'd definitely look offsite - Fort Wilderness is lovely but it's only a very basic (i.e. walking) trek.

My sister did the Fort Wilderness ride a few years ago, and she said that while did she enjoy it, it was very basic so as to be suitable for pretty much anyone, non-riders included. It's not much more than a slow amble around the local trails on horse-back, and wouldn't really satisfy especially serious riders.

sorry to hijack your thread, but would the Wilderness one be suitable for a total beginner (adult) as DH really wants to ride a horse but has never done it before. I guess Disney would be the place, as you somehow feel so 'safe' there. Would you have to book in advance? Do they do them everyt day or just certain days / times? TIA Dee

We rode at horseworld this year and we only really went for DD11;) ,we all had not rode before and really enjoyed it ,they talk you through everything and we felt safe ,you are given helmets to wear we had a great time and would reccomend it for something different,if you are driving you could spend some time at boggy creek as that is further down the road.Thats what we did.:)

Thought I would just pop in and say if anyone is considering riding during their holiday to check their insurance policy tosee if they are covered. Horseriding is not covered on many policies, you usually have to add extra cover for it, just thought I'd mention it.

The horse riding at Fort Wilderness is a lovely slow amble, taking about 3/4 hour to an hour. It is suitable for novices who have never been on a horse before, but my daughter, who is quite an advanced rider, really enjoyed the ride too.

Horseworld do different levels, depending on experience.

I really want to go to Horse world but I tried the fare calculator on the Mears site and it came up with nothing as it wasn't listed & I had to type it in. Trouble is you can't email them with a question. I bet I'm going to have to ring them. I'm an advanced rider so the Horse world one would be perfect for me and my dp could take dd (3) on the walking trail.

Grand Cypress has a BHS approved riding school attached - very close to Pt Orleans resort (the old Dixie Landings. It does english and western, hacks and lessons. They have quite a good website

I went for a look a few years ago - in fact nearly applied for a job as they were looking for qualified instructors at the time!

Thanks for that. I didn't even know that one was there. I did get another taxi firm to give me a quote for Horseworld and they said that it was going to cost $140. Seems a lot when the riding costs $70 as it is. I wish my parents were going, they always get a car!
