Ive booked to go to vegas in June for DH's birthday :D and after looking through endless sites for a hotel, i seem to have narrowed it down to these three, based on reviews and cost. What does anyone think? :confused2 I dont want to pay top dollar for a room which we will hopefully not be spending a lot of time in, only to rest/sleep, both not big swimmers so the pool is irrelevent, and although we're going to vegas we both are not big gamblers :erm: but will partake in a few small 'for fun' bets   !!

If anyone has any reviews about any other hotels please feel free to comment good or bad!

:thumbs-up :thumbs-up

I've stayed in the Luxor not TI - Is the Planet Hollywood the 'old' Aladdin? If so I've stayed there too.

I really liked the Luxor and thought it was very reasonably priced for a 4 * hotel even though it's at the more southern end of the strip.

I'd love to try TI - although when I've looked at prices it tends to be a lot more expensive than the Luxor. If Planet Hollywood is the newly named Aladdin then I didn't think it was worth the extra money (over the Luxor)

If it was my choice, and they were all a similar price, I'd go for TI as it's more centrally located and generally costs more than the other 2!! If TI's a lot more expensive then I'd chose the Luxor.

Of course this is all MHO

Thanks Heather

We're going for a week and the luxor is coming up at approx £550, T.I at approx £700 but when i looked at Planet Hollywood (yes it is the old Aladdin) it seems to be coming up at $500, which if i book now will be just over £260 :omg:
My issue with the Luxor is the fact its at the bottom end of the strip, TI is the most expensive and PH is having building work done to change it from Aladdin into PH, although reviews say the effect on the customers is minimal. i cant decide if the price of PH will outway the building work, or just to choose one of the others. :confused2

I have to say i've been to Vegas twice and i much prefer the south end of the strip where Luxor is located. If you have kids you will be close to Excalibur, MGM is accross the road, NY NY and Monte Carlo are close by which are very nice. Monte Carlo is my favourite casino as it's well lit and always lively. Not forgetting that Luxor is probably the best "themed" hotel of them all. Besides, nothing is that far away in Vegas...cabs are cheap, the monorail works well, there are lots of travelators between the hotels and walking is by far the best way to get around. I've walked up and down the strip from Luxor to Wynn so many times i've lost count and i've only been there twice. My vote would be Luxor.

Thanks Dr P

Would you recommend a pyramid room or for an extra £40 (for the entire stay) a tower room, which are refurbished?

The luxor is a cool hotel, well themed and not that difficult to negotiate your way to the strip. Although I hate the Pyrimid rooms cause they smell a bit ashtrayish to me, the tower rooms are fabulous. The food is fairly cheap upstairs and there is stuff to keep kids interested.

The old Aladin didn't look to me like anything was being done to it when I was there this Jan 2nd, I can't imagine the work will make any difference to the rooms.

Can'y imagine TI would be any better quality wise to Luxor.

The Montecarlo is very resonable for room rates, not very exiting though, its very very convenient for the trip.

You could always splash out a bit and try Caesars, always has and remains to be my fav Vegas place to stay, prefer it even to Bellagio.

aladdin is a great hotel ,its supposedly undergoing a change from aladdin to planet hollywood, but thats been happening for the last 2 yrs almost.id stay there again ,midstrip so right in the middle of all the action ,right opposite bellagio .the rooms are nice too,and at those prices a real bargain.why not upgrade to a bigger room there, look on there website for the various differant rooms.out of the 3 choices id go for PH everytime, luxor is looking a bit tired of late, and the rooms were nothing special.

Another dilemma..........if i book today and pay the full cost, without the right to cancel etc it will be $955 which @ $1.9 to the £ will cost approx £503. If I book to pay a deposit today, of $112, the total will be $1121 but i can cancel etc up to 72 hours before travel.
Dilemma is book and pay for it, then forget about it or pay deposit and hopefully if the rates reduce i can phone and ask for my rate to be lowered, but the dollar may also drop..............so HELP what do i do??????
(This is for the Luxor, tower room, btw)

I have stayed in the pyramid rooms at luxor and Ive also stayed in TI (mandalay bay was the by far our favourite. TI rooms are alot more plush, cleaner, brighter and generally alot better than luxor, although this is a great hotel. were staying at mandalay bay and bellagio on our next trip.

We stayed in a pyramid room last year at the Luxor and we couldn't fault it. The room was clean and spacious, had a nice view of mandalay bay and the airport and the shower was really huge. The Luxor is a great hotel and in a good location, we also walked up and down to the Wynn hotel countless times.

I've stopped at TI and MGM. TI is fantastic. Watching the show from your bedroom window is something else. But i think with Vegas, it really comes down to price. When i stopped at TI is was about $70 a night.

I don't really think any of the hotels on the strip are bad and for the amount of time you will be spending in your room, I'd go for the cheapest.

When are you going? Can't you make a cancelable booking at one of your top 3, and then see what's around last minute? If you can get a cheaper deal then just cancel the reservation you made, that's what i've done for NY, and managed to get a really good deal on a great property for 300 quid by booking at the last minute!

Tracie,
I can make a cancelable booking at the luxor now and it would cost £590 or if i paid in full could have it for £503 but cannot cancel or transfer. I dunno if its worth the £87 risk that the price may come down closer to the time (end of may) or that the exchange rate might drop.

If you've got your heart set on a particular hotel, then you would probably be best to book it straightaway i guess, especially in places like Vegas where they would get booked up pretty fast. Have you looked on travelocity.com (the US site, not the UK one)? I just looked for beginning of June, and they have some fantastic rates.

We stayed at the Luxor when we got married in Vegas in 2004 and were given the option of a pyramid or a tower room when we checked in. We went for a tower one and it was fab. Such a lovely room for such a small price. The only problem was that even a week later DH was still getting lost in the place:grin: - he has no sense of direction and he is a hgv driver!!!
