i'm getting nervous this time. i hate taking off and landing. the last time i flew to New York i didn't move out of my seat the whole time. i'm taking children this time so will probably be more distracted and hopefully not as nervous

Have you ever thought of taking a fear of flying course, I think both Virgin and BA operate them at various points in the year.
Also hypnotherapy is worth a try.

Yes, I'm frightened to death. The first time I ever flew, was from Cardiff to Sanford, and it was really foggy, andI couldn't see anything outside at all. I wasn't prepared for the roar of the engines, the lightheadedness feeling, like you're in a lift or.........any bit of it really!
Everyone was laughing at me when it came to the descent at Sanford, because the stewardess had been round with 'hot flannels', and I kept wiping my arms, my neck, and my face. One bloke said 'first time flying is it'? - I thought I was going to punch him!
The last time we went, I took a little bottle of roll on aromatherapy lavender, from Avon, and it was brilliant. You roll it on your arm or hand, and then breath it in - my friend uses aromatherapy stuff when flying, and I didn't think it would work, but as I said, it was brilliant.

I hate flying as well. I can never relax until we're down and i'm off that plane. Just keep reminding yourself of what you'll be doing when you get there.

i think my worst moment is actually getting on the plane.and taking off...Im terrible for the first hour,my poor hubbie has nail marks on his hands then with the help of whisky im a little better.......i dont mind landing,as i no im getting closer to the ground....I have to admit though the doctor does give me some tablets to help me calm down and they do help a little
ill try the avon stuff next time
 i am also very nervous flying:wave: i have found if i get a window seat ( not over the wing ) i am not sick:spin: if i dont i am sick all the way over there till we land and land with a sore head:mad2: :mad2: but it still doesnt put me of going:wave:
HI
I am a nervous flyer to and found it worse sitting in the window seat, Last september the steward was very good, I cried the minute we boarded the plaine a kind lady offered me the window seat so I could sit with FIL, but the steward advised it would be worse, he talked to me all the way through take off, telling me to breath and when to breath and to look at him and try to talk, I did have medication from the doctor but we had such a bad delay I didn't have chance to take it. I felt sick all the way out, but not on the way back home.

i'm trying some rescue remedy this time, if that doesn't work then a large brandy:grin:
I am sitting apart from dh and the children as i thought i might pass my fear on to them and this is their first time flying.
i just feel sorry for the person sitting next to me:erm:

I suppose i am a very nervous flyer:omg::eek: ,then someone told about a small bottle of natural herb fluid called bach rescue remedy, you use it a week before you fly and you should be o.k during the flight. Well me being a total unbeliever:nonono: when it comes to this sort of herbal help gave it a go,and it really worked:thumbup: ,i was totally relaxed the whole flight, and now use it whenever i fly.I dont know if it is a mental thing, but it works for me.  :mickeywal :mickeywal
Ohhhhh you ppl ....... I wish I could wave a magic wand over you and say ENJOY the FLIGHT  but .... everybody is different. Try this ..... look up at the moon!!! do you feel sick .... prob NO !!! ... that's because you are not attached to the ground, so when flying you are not attached to mother earth you should not have the sensation of ...... chit I am at edge of the cliff I want to jump off!!!!!!.
Most folks are scared of the noises they hear on an aircraft .... closing the doors, closing the doors in the hold ( where they store bagge ) and operating the wing flaps etc are all controlled bye HYDRAULICS ......and they make a NOISE .... sometimes a lot of noise........calm down is it very NORMAL ..... even when landing the Pilot has to adjust lots of " stuff " to land and it is all controlled by HYDRAULICS .... and is NOISEY and is perfectly safe.
Please do NOT be afraid of the noise...... I am an Aircraft Engine Mechanic and YES noise can be scarey..... but it is only NOISE ..... try and sit back and enjoy your flight to the MAGIC and enjoy your HOLIDAY :wavey:

Ooooh i know just what you mean...i'm a terrible flyer, i get tablets from my doctor too, and they seem to calm my nerves enough. I hate take off's....even the thought of sitting on the plane taxiing to the runway makes my tummy flip...:erm: ... and then if there was any turbulance...  ....but i read something on here, it was a link to a Captains explanation of turbulance, what it is, why it happens etc....and when i'd finished reading it, that was it !!! No longer frightened of that anymore....:spin: Yaaaay... But i'll keep getting on the big bird because its worth it in the end......Give Bachs Rescue Remedy ago, alot of dibbers swear by it....:spin:

Hayley still has a big fear of flying, she takes the diazepam, and the vodka in the business lounge and it seems to help, but I dont think it will ever be easy.
She has done all the fear of flying courses (virgin etc), but the best seemed to be the one done by Paul Makenna, that seemed to help.
The main thing is you have done it, and you can do it again, and again. Might never like it, but when you are there you will have a great time!
