Every year we have been there has always been some shark attacks with some fatalities. Atlantic Coast mainly but they are in the Gulf too.

You might not see them.............but they are there. Will I be swimming in the sea at Clearwater this year?????????........No way!

Unlikely I guess, probably a bit cold for them at the moment.

Didn't see any but they'll probably be there....??!!:omg:

Wondered the same thing about alligators????? Is that why some ponds/lakes are fenced off and others aren't??:omg:

Did see a REAL snake in Animal Kingdom though just slithering along the path in Dinoland. Kids and DH thought is wasn't real but I asked a CM and with her screams all was confirmed.....VERY REAL but not highly dangerous.:omg:

On my last visit to Florida we went to an amazing beach/park area called Fort DaSoto (spelling?) near St Pete's, there are some lovely picnic areas and gorgeous beaches, voted in the top few in the US. After a spell of dolphin watching, sun bathing and general beach type stuff, we decided to head in the water for a dip. It wasn't until we were belly deep, that a US college student type called out to us advising us that 'you shouldn't go any further'. Gazing in the direction he was pointing we saw several 'fins' slicing through the water. At that point the three of us in the water froze, the other two behind me, cowards. We slowly made our way back towards the safety of land, bravely warning others of the impending danger.
Halfway back we saw a middleaged lady wading out into the water, I warned her of the danger, only for her to carryon past us. I was extremly worried ( save her, save me, save her, save me) so called out to her, fortunatley she was a regular to the beach and kindly put everyones mind at ease by saying that they were only stingrays and they are prefectly 'safe' to swim with.
Still very unnerved we all went back into the water. It was amazing having these rays with 5-6 feet wingspans brushing past your legs, another highlight to add to the Florida collection.
So no I have seen no sharks and dont want to, as when we first saw the 'fins', my legs went, my heart went, I thought of all the things I hadn't done, prayed, wished and generally messed myself.
Brilliant day though, just Stingrays afterall.

We always go in the sea when we`re down the Gulf Coast and have yet to see a shark. I don`t go worrying about shark attacks as I just see it the same as worrying about being struck by lightening, run over by a double decker bus etc.!! The water is gorgeous, really clear and warm with little fish swimming in the shallows. I`m not saying that there aren`t sharks out there, I`m sure there are, but it`s not something we worry about.
