I'm VERY short sighted and usually keep my glasses on (well my old spare pair) when I'm swimming otherwise I can't see a thing. I know you aren't able to wear jewellery on the dolphin swim bit but will I be allowed to wear my glasses? It seems pointless doing it if I can't as I won't be able to see a thing and I don't want to miss seeing my DD's face when she's interacting with the dolphins! :(

I know they have goggles to hire but prescription is very different in each eye so 'over the counter' type eye wear would not work! :confused2

Has anyone worn/see anyone wearing glasses on the dolphin swim?

As far as I'm aware, they can do different lenses in each side of the goggles. My kids have goggles with prescription lenses for all swimming, and they have whatever prescription is needed for each eye.

I'm sure DC must do the same, you just need to take your prescription with you to make it easier for them to match you up correctly.

This sounds exactly like me :( I too am extremely short sighted, don't know exact prescription but we are talking -10+, one eye is much worse than the other. To read anything it would have to be literally 3inches from my nose:omg:

Have you been to any of the water parks and if so how did you get on? I would love to try Typhoon Lagoon but am reluctant because of having to wear my glasses. I don't want to get prescription goggles as I hate goggles. Of course the easy solution would be laser surgery but I'm way too chicken for that :D

I have been worried about this too esp for the water parks i can wear contact lenses but im worried incase the water gets in my eyes if i wear them. Im very sort sighted and cant see anything without my glasses/contacts.

Hi...

Thanks to emery66 - it sounds like I should be okay!!!:D

With regards to the water parks - I've not been on any of the 'big' rides but have done the tube rides, lazy river and even the wave pool at TL whilst wearing my specs! I tend to take my old prescription sunglasses for such trips so that it's not the end of the world if they do get lost or broken...that said I've been several times over the yearsa nd have never yet lost or broke a piar of specs at the water parks. You can buy a waterproof strap that goes round your head - my mate used one when we went in 2005 - if you feel safer!

I've always worn my specs (short-sighted too) or sunglasses in the waterparks without any mishaps.

Last time I did use one of the straps coz my sunglasses were a bit looser than my normal specs.

I also wear my sunglasses or specs on all the coasters, including sheikra, montu, hulk, kraken etc.

KK Cat - If laser surgery is an option for you then go for it, get over that fear. It is such a big change for the better. I hated it - my own fear of it - but not the procedure itself, and it is well worth it for the benefits.

my DW has a pair of prescription goggles, she used the ones given at DC she wore Contacts at the actual dolphin swim and if snorkiling she uses her goggles at TL and BB because she kept loosing her Contacts in the past. she says its a totally different world been able to see in the theme pools

Thanks again for everyone's input! I wrote to DC and got a very nice response as follows...

Thank you for contacting Discovery Cove. As always we like to help assist our guests in planning a day with us.

We do permit our guests to wear their eyeglasses or sunglasses into the water. We ask you keep watch of them at all times incase they happen to fall off in your interaction.

So it looks like we'll be fine!!!!! :spin: :D

We have precription googles. You can order these off the net (myeyes we got them from AFAIR) with your prescription. About £35 AFAIR.

I wore my glasses at Discovery Park and the water parks and have never had a problem (touches some wood ;) ) Only had to take them off for the Crush 'n' Gusher ride at Typhoon Lagoon but just held on to them whilst holding on to the raft.

bit of advice....be one of the first to choose your prescription goggles,as when i got to choose which ones where best for me,there were only a few pairs left.your ok with your specs on for the dolphin swim, anyway get saving up and get them lazered, it cost me 1200 quid but its the best money i have ever spent,,,,and only took 10 mins.
