We've done both - 1st year we stopped in Singapore (I was born there but had never been back) and stayed in the Shangri-La, near Orchard Road, the main shopping area of Singapore. I found the city very friendly towards us, and very cheap.

We did the Night Zoo (unusual, like a zoo, but only open at night, with day time and nocturnal animals), city tour, river cruise, the obligatory tea at Raffles, shopping, the cable car to Sentosa Island. Had 3 great days and would go back.

Hong Kong was 14 months ago and was different but just as fun. It was more frenetic than Singapore and more 'modern/western'. Our hotel was the fabulous Intercontinental, where our room overlooked the city skyline (amazing sight, especially at night), right on the river which was almost as busy as the M25!. The ferry to the main island was just a 10 minute walk from our hotel, to the huge and plentiful shopping arcades. We spent a day at Disney (of course!) about 50 minutes away via a very clean, efficient and cheap underground. Again we did the city tour, up to Victoria Peak, to Stanley Market, night time river cruise (bit overated actually). People again were fantastic and it was very reasonable.

Tough choice to make as both different and special in their own way. I would do both again for sure, but if you asked which one first, I might just have to say if pushed......Hong Kong!!

Have fun.

 any of these two would be nice for a three night break:wave: but dont choose qualalumpa as this is a dive as soon as you arrive at the airport there are no toilets its a hole in the ground. my wife stayed in brisbane and travelled to and from aus quite a lot (although i have never been myself to hot)

Mmm good question but I'm swayed by Raffles!! I've been to both and they each have something to offer but I felt safer in Singapore so would vote that way.

As it's been said already you'll enjoy them both.
