Hi there

I have a wee question on behalf of my parents, both age 65. Does anyone know where they can get travel insurance. My dad has a number of medical conditions, none of which are life threatening, but there are too many to get a quote. (9 in all although 4 require no further treatment)

Please forward any suggestions at all as they have a holiday booked for Easter to Washington which was booked before a couple of the conditions cropped up. Unfortunately their existing insurance has transpired.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I was turned down by Thomson's Travel Insurance and tried to get quotes on my own, some ranging as high as £900 because I've had heart surgery. I then remembered that because of my bank account, Royalties Gold with the Royal Bank of Scotland, I am covered. I phoned them and they either accept you with no extra premium or don't accept you. Luckily they accepted me and I just had to pay £50 to put my daughter on the policy.

Hope that can be of some help.

I've used Asda for my parents, both have pre existing conditions and it was only £40ish for USA and China holidays.

My dad is 72 and had a triple bypass 13 years ago.

Last year he got competitively priced insurance from a company called RIAS.

He has just had a really good quote from a company called Floyds Direct.

Good luck

When we flew to the States I booked my Mum's travel insurance (69) through Norwich Union as they were surprisingly good. When I did my homework I found out that SAGA and Age Concern and all those others that "tailor" insurance to older folks were very very expensive and offered no greater protection. Try moneysupermarket.com

My mothers 75 and this co gave her a very good quote - No problem covering her for the 6 weeks she stayed in Orlando last year either.

We opened a Lloyds TSB bank account (Platinum) just for this purpose. Got additonal benefits like AA cover which I've needed to use a couple of times. £15 per month.

Try www.moneysupermarket.com they might be able to help.

I would be wary of generic bank annual policies like the lloyds one unless you have checked that pre-existing conditions are covered in the policy document.

I'm having problems getting insurance at the moment too as I've just been diagnosed with cardiomyopathy. I've found a couple of web-sites that will screen you and quote for most medical conditions but my problem seems to be I was only diagnosed at beginning of jan and am still undergoing tests, which puts the cost through the roof.
Luckily I don't have any trips booked for this year as my annual policy with Norwich Union which runs out in July is no use to me now as they won't cover me.
Try jmi.co.uk or flexicover.com,, (they ask you to buy a "normal" policy then direct you to healthscreen247 where you answer various questions and quote you for a top-up to cover your health problems)

Good Luck, I hope you find something - I know how frustrating it is!!

Both my parents have PEMCs and have had insurance with Norwich Union for the last few years after other firms refused to cover them. We had to turn to Norwich Union when our insurer refused to renew our cover following DH's accident. (We had never claimed).

Mum (who is in her early 60s) is with Norwich Union as well (they've covered all her PEMCs). Unfortunately we had major problems with my dad who is now 70, it seems as soon as they hit their 70's a lot of companies will not cover them. In the end he managed to get insurance with saga, but still has paid through the roof.

Give www.atlasdirect.net (http://www.atlasdirect.net) a try. Have got insurance with them for my trip to WDW in October. Have declared 2 medical conditions and for a 1 trip 21 days payed £36.00. They are good. Last trip in 2005 my daughter had an emergency op on the 2nd day there, spent 2 days in Sandlake Hospital which cost just over £22000. Atlasdirect paid up in full.
