Having spent only a day at Clearwater on our recent Orlando trip, I would love to go back and spend at least half the time on the Gulf.

Which resorts would others recommend for a chilled-out, laid back holiday with white sand? Also which are best times of year to go for sunbathing but not unpleasantly hot weather?

Have stayed in Naples twice & are booked to go again this Summer for a week before hitting Orlando. Itis a really nice place to chill out but the drawback is it is quite a trek down there.
Have always stayed at Naples Beach & Golf as it is slap bang on the beach so you have instant acces to both pool & sea. Last time we were there a couple of years ago it was being completly refurbished, so looking forward to staying there again this summer.

Naples is great if you want upmarket
Fort Myers beach is great, not too busy and you'll mix with locals
The Sarasota area is lovely. You might have a bit of a hike to find different restaurants each night but it's a beautiful area for chilling out.
Clearwater and St. Petes is popular with children. There is a Pirate Ship that goes out every day and dolphin cruises etc.
Our personal favourite has always been Sanibel & Captive Islands. Def not cheap but so lovely.
Weather is good pretty much all year round. Very busy during US school holidays. Hurricane season is June to Early November. Jan to Easter is peak season and therefore dearest.
Personal favouite for perfect weather is November.
Have a great time,
Carol :wavey:

Have only been to Naples but we loved it. Quite sophisticated and just beautiful. The sand is like powder! We stayed at PArk Shore Resort with Virgin and loved it. My in laws stayed at the Pelican Bay Hotel and said it was very good.
