I actually posted this as a reply to Briar Rose's thread, but i thought i'd put it in a thread of it's own just incase others might want to read it, and miss it in there!

I was given these tips by a Brit who has lived in NY for 10 years, and i have to say, i probably won't shop anywhere else in NYC now (apart from Macys!). Try it if you have time, and let me know what you think.

Best place for shoe shopping is 6th St & 8th Ave, get the subway to 14th St (the A,C,E or L trains), walk down to 6th St and walk all the way along 6th St, loads of shoe stores, and lots of them were having sales when i was there. This area is SoHo, and there are loads of funky boutiques here. Walk along 6th St, till you hit Broadway, turn right into Broadway and continue along, you will find lots of the big stores here such as Guess, Bloomingdales, Victoria Secret, David Z (only store in Manhattan to still have Ugg boots!), Kenneth Cole, Levis etc, you will hit Canal St, after walking along Broadway for about 15 minutes. Canal St is famous for it's fake designer bags... brilliant copies for a fraction of the price, if you are into that kinda thing.

Have fun! :thumbs-up

If you like 'different' fashion styles ... gothic, punk or just a bit 'way out' ... they have some great little shops located in East Village...we found one called Trash 'n' Vaudeville, it was inside two floors of a Brownstone House and DD (age 14) spent TWO HOURS in here, poor DH's eyes were completely glazed over....:D

Yeah, they have to do that as it is illegal! *lol* We were in one such place and the woman was on her two way radio to her 'look-out' outside and we had to wait for about 10 mins to leave as there was police patrolling! *lol* Not that i condone this sort of shopping of course, i was just there for the experience! :tounge: ;)
