Depending on finances I'm thinking of booking a week away somewhere different for me in the States.
I have no problem driving across there and don't actually mind where I go but wanted to go somewhere other than Florida (I'm having a month out there as it is)
Any suggestions?
I've looked at Monteray, Carmel and Santa Barbara.
I'll be going on my own so I need to feel safe, although I know there's no guarentees.
Thanks
I'd catch a short flight down to the Bahamas...

What about Hawaii? Looks beautiful, and if you stay in a resort, you will be fine, and you will probably meet people too.

I didn't find Bahamas safe at all, thought it was a dump and the people were really rude too. Might just have been a one off experience. Although someone apparantly was held up in their room at The Rad Cable Beech whilst I was there.

Why not the Carolinas or New England? Some of the beaches in these states are phenomenal. Weather will not be as hot as the Sunshine State though.

Bal Harbour or Palm Beach in Florida are really nice too, quite upmarket resorts so you should be safe!

Mexico? If you go to some parts of Cancun you will FEEL like you're in the USA!
Pretty safe, too. Not to mention warm and beautiful.

I'd not call Nassau or Paradise Island the real Bahamas at all.
Get out to the real Bahamas - I've been here: http://www.hawks-nest.com/ - and it is ideallic.

Thanks Bozza, so is it friendly there then, Nassau people were just so rude, it felt like they resented us for being able to afford to go there in the first place.
Will they post a brochure to the UK?, like the idea of Fort L and then fly over there.
You could try either Myrtle Beach in South Carolina or Wrightsville Beach in North Carolina. also consider the coast line around KittyHawk also in North Carolina.Pat

Somethings wrong with my computer, I posted a reply to this earlier today!!
Thanks for all the advice/suggestions. I've been lucky enough to have visited Hawaii twice and have visited Maui, Kauai and Ohao. Loved the 2 smaller islands not so fussy on Ohao.
It's looking like a 'go' for November as I've just got some part time work that should finance the trip sometime in November - I feel a little guilty as I only get back from Florida on 23rd Oct!! Only a little guilty as why else am I working if not for holidays!!
How lucky are we!!
