We go to the stockcars racing every trip if possible.
I would definately reccommend going to a tarmac/asphalt track rather than a clay/dirt. Went to see the Sprint cars at East Bay nr Tampa a couple of years ago. Its a clay track and it took 2 1/2 hours just to run a 35 lap race. Everytime a car crashes or even spins, the yellow flags are out.

I havent been to Orlando Speedworld yet though. Its a tar track of about 1/4 mile in length and racing is every Fri AND Sat during the racing season[March thru Nov].
One track I did enjoy was New Smyrna Speedway which is just south of Daytona. Half mile tar track with good facilities and great racing.
You will no doubt find that you are the only Brits at the track, and it is very much a Redneck sport. Weve met some great folk at the tracks and they love the stories we tell of the full contact racing we have here in the UK.

Clothing wise, take a fleece and jeans/jogs as most of these tracks are out in the open and after dark it can get chilly, especially in the cooler months. Not only that , but you may find that wearing shorts would have you standing out like a sore thumb, and a definate tourist.

This site will point you in the direction of all the tracks in Florida. Some are now unfortunately defunct, but this site will give you the links to the tracks that are open for racing. Just click on the coloured dots.

Finally, if there is Sprint Car racing on at a track whilst you are there, go see them race. They are mindblowingly fast.

Hope this helps
