View Full Version : Question For Any Golfers Out There.........

DH & DS (14yrs) have already booked a couple of rounds of golf at Highlands Reserve in April. As I'm such a nice mum ;) I have (very generously) said that they can also book a round at one of the Disney courses.

Our question is, which Disney course will suit them best given that DS only started playing in mid 2006. He has joined a local club and is having weekly lessons - currently getting round the relatively easy par 67 course in approx 110 - 115 shots. DH has played for years and years but doesn't play more than 5 or 6 times per year and gets round the same course in 90 - 100 shots.

They want to play a Disney course for the experience but also want a relaxing rather than very challenging game. If none of the Disney courses are suitable they would be happy to play any non-Disney course if anyone can recommend somewhere suitable.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

basically avoid the disney ones, avoid the courses with alot of water. play orange county or maybe kissimmee golf club.

I play off the same as your DH and the last time I was there I played the Palm and the Magnolia and thoroughly enjoyed both. Yes they are a challenge but some of the views on the Magnolia looking across to Magic Kingdom are superb. Also being able to play them for $30 ish after 3pm makes it worthwhile. I played to about my handicap I think. If they have never played an american course it is interesting. The fairways are nothing like ours and the greens are like glass.
If you want to see the course use Google earth, find MK and go southwest and you can find the Grand Floridian. Southwest of that a little way is a golf course and that is the Magnolia. If you go to the far left of the course and zoom in on the lake you will see a bunker in the shape of Mickey. Word of warning though, that lake is supposed to have Alligators in it so if your ball goes in the water may be best to leave it.

Disney have a nine hole family course called Oak Ridge Trail. I would recommend that as its not too difficult. Magnolia and Palm courses are superb but long. A course I thouroughly enjoyed was Falcons Fire. Superb to play and the golf carts have GPS to tell you how far you are from the pin !!!! Have a look on their website.
Where ever you play have a great time and enjoy.

Good luck

DH played the Magnolia Course last year and enjoyed it. He also played Remington and Falcons Fire which he would definitely recommend.

Thanks everyone for the usual well considered advice.

We've been trawling through various golf review sites and have actually decided on a course not yet mentioned - Kissimmee Bay Country Club which is up by Boggy Creek about 35 minutes from where we are staying in Davenport.

Not only does it look georgeous and about the right degree of difficulty but they responded to an e-mail enquiry almost instantly. We've booked a tee time on 19th April at 1.30pm at $79 for DH and a yet to be confirmed discounted price for DS.

The best news for me is that my two 'happy chappies' have promised me a double dose of Mall At Millenia in return for their extra golf day!! :spin:

Thanks again all.

Josie, are you sure that the Mall doesnt have any golf stores. Thats usually the only way us blokes will go to a mall twice.

Nice one phmc,

From memory I think there's only one sporting goods store at M@M which sells running gear, trackies, replica sports tops, trainers etc., so, unless my memory has gone completely or they have opened a golf store I might just have two honest men in my family! :spin:

Even if there is a golf store they are welcome to browse. It'll give me time to study the menu at the Cheesecake Factory!!!!

Golf Smith is in the M@M area - behind the Super Target.

My Dad said Kissimee Bay was good when he played there 2 or 3 years ago. I think it was fairly new. Last year he played on some private course that allowed groups from the resort to go one morning a week - said a sandwich in the clubhouse was $20!!!
His take on the courses he has played on is - narrow fairways with houses awfully close! He still goes back though.
