Fast Pass

I have read that you can "buy" a fast pass - I'm confussed as I thought you could get these for free by putting your ticket into the machines? Can anyone explain. Thanks

You are correct they are not for sale, I believe Universal do something you can buy to get to the front of the queues.

The Universal Express pass can be purchased which gives you no front of line access once for each ride. The pass varies in cost depending on the season. You can also stay at a Universal hotel which gives you unlimited FOTL priveleges for the duration of your stay - normally a cheaper and better option.

correct. Disney fastpasses are free by putting your ticket in the machine. At universal you have to pay for your fastpass.

:mickeybou :mickeybou :mickeybou hi i dont pay in any of the disney parks . you can only have one at a time you put your park ticket in the pastpass machine and it prints you a fp ticket with the time on that you can ride ie 1.30 2.30
you go back any time between them
you can go and ride other rides that dont have big queues , at 1.30 you can get another fastpass so that the time is ticking away while you go back to the original ride
