I love pancakes, bacon, scrambled eggs and whatever else I can fit on my plate smothered with maple syrup, I love American breakfasts....mmmmmmmm. What I don't get is delicious "biscuits" spoilt by smothering them in white "gravy",

Yes it's lovely, yet sounds so wrong. My first experience of this was on San Fransisco Bay.

I had a stack of pancakes, bacon strips, butter, fried egg and topped off with Maple Syrup, and it was great.

By the end of the holiday, I had graduated to a large stack of pancakes!! (oh, and elasticated waist bands too!)

Its gorgeous! But you have to have the bacon in the crispy strips US style, its not the quite the same with a rasher of danish.
The first time I had this was 12 years ago in Jamaica, Sandals hotels always cater for Americans and at fisrt I though eurghhhhhh gross, but hubby tried it and said it was delish so I gave it a go and LOVED it yummmmmm

Our favourite at home breakfast is:- 2 slices of Oatmeal toast smothered in Butter, 3 strips of fried bacon and maple syrup. We started off having this for special days - Christmas morning breakfast, Birthdays, Valentines day etc now its either a Saturday or Sunday morning breakfast or even better Saturday AND Sunday breakfast! Try it and you will be hooked its yummy!:tounge:

Sarah im with you !!

The smell of it alone makes me go queezy.

I sit back and watch Dh cover his bacon etc in it. Sons have it on their pancakes but not loads and always in a seperate plate from the rest of their food.

Nope right here alongside you. Do you do what i do aswell ? I look at all the gunk around the top of the maple syrup bottle and try put my DH and kids off eating from it. Well, not direct from the bottle but putting it on their plates:tounge:

Sorry not wanting to put peeps off their maple but have you seen the state of the bottles sometimes?

Sorry Princess, I tend to have pancakes, syrup and bacon for breakfast at POR when I'm there. But to be fair I don't actually put the syrup ON the bacon, just on the pancakes. I still fancy some real bacon there though...

Yes, I love it too. And I also love the American version of bacon (but not keen on their "sausage links").

I think of it like cranberry sauce on turkey, redcurrant jelly on lamb, apple sauce on pork etc etc. But I do only do it in the States.

Ooh I love it!! I've started making American pancakes with bacon every Sunday for breakfast with lashings of whipped butter and maple syrup!!!

My pancakes aren't too different from the American ones and if I fry the bacon long enough it is quite similar - still not the same though and I have to cook it myself and do the washing up!!!

Ooo yes I love maple sauce with my American brekkie. Unless I'm in the mood for some spicy hot Tabasco......

I love it. This is how I do them. Fry a couple of strips of smoked streaky bacon in a pan till crisp. Then pour a ladleful of pancake batter over them. (I use an ordinary english pancake batter).

Flip over to cook both sides and serve drizzled with 100% pure canadian maple syrup.

Absolutley gorgeous.

Thats right, you have to make sure the bacon is cooked right through and is starting to turn crispy before adding the batter. The pancake then picks up all the smoky bacon flavour and it really is delish!

My sister taught me how to do these after she visited Canada.

waffles with crispy bacon and maple syrup is a favourite treat breakfast. Even better with a bit if mashed banana spread on first!

I love the taste of bacon and maple syrup, but my DW can't stand it. She'll quite happily eat the pancakes with syrup though, and have her bacon on a separate plate.

I found that if I want to simulate the bacon served in, say, IHOP I can put smoked streaky bacon on a baking tray, then put a second baking tray on top to keep it flat and bung the whole lot in a hot oven. Presto! Crisp, flat smokey bacon. Yum!

This made me chuckle because when we first went in 1998 to Quality Suites on International Drive, they served weird and wonderful breakfasts i would never dream of eating!
However i tried the crispy bacon, scrambled eggs, french toast & of course maple syrup oh but has anyone had the opportunity to sprinkle icing sugar over the top as well???!!!! Yum!!
I can't wait to eat it again!
The 2 things i go on about when we reminise is the french toast and the Back To The Future Ride....
Only in America!! :spin:

Do you know that you can get eggs to order ANY way you want them! Also if you want Bacon "proper" You need only to tell most places what you want and how to cook it.

The problem is that you're going to places like Denny's , Ponderosa, or any other chain restaurant that you feel safe with. First mistake!

Ask a local, for a Mom and Pop Shop for Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner and work with them.

You guys and gals just miss out on the whole experience by sticking to such mess.

Once you find a place the real locals go to. It will probably become a tradition.

Honestly, I wouldn't feel right by not telling you.
