I would guess as long as you have the adaptor for the plug then it should work. Not sure about the games though!

My other half says you can get one and it will work but you must buy all your games from the states as it's regional like a DVD player.

I've heard it is regionilised too.

Also heard that the European version will not be backward compatible with PS2 games.

I dont think the games will work. Although the games are not regionalised on the PSP.

Check out the Sony store in the Mall at Millenia - they are very helpfull.

Hi, I found a site which had a statement from Phil Harrison at Sony and the games are not regionalised, like the PSP you can buy any game to work in the PS3.

Also posted this on the other PS3 thread!!!

We brought one back for our DS in January. He also has a US PS2. The PS3 plays fine with a kettle plug ? That's as technical as I can get about it I'm afraid . DS is very happy with it though.

The Games are not regionalised, so you can buy it out there and buy the games here and they will work.
However, I'm pretty sure that the BlueRay player is regionalised, so you couldn't buy a Blue Ray movie here and play it on there. Not such a big problem now as the technology hasn't really arrived her yet, but a few years down the line when HDDVD/BlueRay has taken over from DVD you might regret it.
Just my 2 pence worth.

Are you sure, DD was going to get one but if she can't use her old PS2 games as well as the new games she will get there's no point.

Hi, We bought one back from our holiday. You do need a kettle lead to make it work. You can only play the US games on it, they are not multi region. So you will have to buy your games of the net, but the kids love it and we bought lots of games out there as they were cheap as well. Hope this helps

Read these site for all info

www.engadget.com/2006/03/23/playstation-3-to-ship-region-free/

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/697/697656p1.html

There's loads more around. The games are region free so a uk game will work on a US console and vice versa.

Thanks for that.

Well I guess she will not bother, there is no point having both the PS2 and PS3 and she has so many games it would be pointless re-buynig her favourites just to suit the new machine :(.

The official Playstation site states that some PS2 games will be compatible and there's a link on the site where you can check which ones are but it only goes live at the same time as the launch of the PS3 which is March 23 I believe.

UK launch is only a few weeks away anyway....i've posted this link before so apologies, but it's a decent way to track stock and prices in the US and the UK.

Thanks Catherine. I think we will wait and see what happens when it comes out, she wanted it for her Birthday in June :).
