Arrived back from Orlando Saturday after a fab 2 weeks which included a 3 night cruise on The Disney Wonder.........It really was WONDERfull!!!
Anyone thinking of booking dont hesitate, its truly a great trip.
The ship is stunning and even our standard stateroom was fabulous....There is something for all ages on board, young & old and although the stop at Nassau is full of shops(Nice jewelery ones though!), Castaway Cay is not to be missed, we had stunning weather & I really hope we will go again some day!
I celebrated my 40th birthday whilst on board & it was my best birthday ever!!

Welcome Home, so glad you had a great time.

Did you take plenty of photos? I remember you being a bit concerned over your stateroom - how was it?

We are off on the Wonder in Sept....so looking forward to it.

Thanks for puting them on Tinkershell, I love looking at them!!
as you can see, on my birthday night I was presented with a cake & all the waiters sang happy birthday to me!!We then went up to the deck as it was Pirates in The Caribbean party that night so dh & I had a few cocktails, whilst dh 1 went to his big kids club & ds 2 fell asleep in his stroller!!
A great night & next day was Castaway Cay, so a lovely relaxing day!!

There were quite a few babies/toddlers on board, our little one loved keep 'bumping' into the characters, its much easier to meet them on board than it is in the parks!

Anyone heard Disney are building 2 new ships with double the cappacity-WOW-The Wonder is already huge!Due to sail 2011/2012, perhaps I should start saving now!LOL!!

You REALLY sold me Sally, we have just booked a 3 day cruise on the Wonder for August 16th. Stateroom with Verandah (cat 6) I can't wait!!!! I'm so excited but we are keeping it as a surprise for DD (11) so I can't talk about it which is Soooooo! frustrating.

Any tips for a new cruiser?

Can I ask how you found the food? On the Dis, some people say how disappointed they were - just wanting a balanced view.

jdybnsn
11 Mar 07, 09:15 AM
The restaurant food is fantastic ...but I have to say that we did find the food a bit of an ordeal on our cruise :confused2 ! ....just too much of it !!!!

It did not help that we had early dining time of 5.30pm ..and we are late eaters at home. It always seemed that one meal time was running into the next and that we just did not have enough appetite to do it all justice !

We ended up having a light room service breakfast in our rooms (no extra charge - you just have to tip a few $s) just to cut down on the time we were spending eating, and volume we were consuming ! This is a good way to get some hot water (but you have to order it) for your British tea bags if you like a cuppa in bed !

We did a brunch at Palo and it was great food :tounge: but again a bit of a marathon to fit in.

As well as excellent restaurant food, there are burgers ,chips, hot dogs, pizza, fizzy drinks & icecream virtually on tap all day long, and this did not help the kids' appetities for dinner either !:confused2

11 Mar 07, 09:46 AM
Sounds like a serious pig-out to me! :D

Can you get any meals delivered to your room, or just breakfast?

jdybnsn
11 Mar 07, 10:12 AM
Can you get any meals delivered to your room, or just breakfast?

As far as I'm aware you can get room service 24 hrs apart from the last evening and last morning of your cruise.....mostly for drinks & snacks though (you do have to pay for alcoholic drinks).

Yes , cruises are best planned well ahead, as the rates rise steadily from their release date (as much as 50% sometimes !), and rarely ever drop in price (they are released roughly 14 months prior to sailing) You can get the rate matched if they do happen to reduce - providing you spot it !.

Also if you book well ahead with DCL ,or a US cruise specialist T/A, that unlike in this country, you can cancel up to 75 days (but please check that exact figure) before sailing, and still get ALL your deposit back, or transfer your booking onto another Disney cruise.

Also, the earlier you book - the better the choice of cabins; so you can ensure you get a location that suits you, and do not end up in a cabin under the ship's night club !

ANGEL
11 Mar 07, 03:26 PM
I think DCL food is great, and Palo for brunch or dinner is fab:) We loved room service too, ordering snacks to eat out on the balcony, but especially ordering early monring coffee to wake us up in the morning...again, drinking that out on the balcony is out of this world!:)

You can order all sorts of food from room service including, pizzas, soup, burgers, chicken strips, sandwiches & wraps, cookies and doughnuts, cakes of the day, cheese plates, sodas, etc etc all day (and night ) long!:tounge:

re booking a cruise I would definatley go through a US travel agent, especially with the great dollar rates just now, someone like Dreams, who will then book everything for you :)

Did you find it too cold/too warm on the cruise? I have read some posts that say there is not enough control of the airconditioning in the rooms and that the restaurants/cinema was cold so bring along a cardigan. Anyone any experience of this?

Just wanted to add our food was always EXCELLENT!!
Ate in Tritons on 1st night, then Animators Palate, then Parrot Key-My fav was Tritons but all were great. We had B'Fast at Beach Buffet and Parrot Key twice.
The BBQ on Castaway Cay was great too-We really cant fault any of it, just as some have mentioned, food seems to be around you continuously!!LOL!!Even our 12 yr old son who eats every five minutes at home couldnt manage it all!!
All you people booked will have a fab time-I'm soooo envious now!
We will find it very hard to go to Florida and NOT do the cruise next time-I will have to work on DH!!!
Anyone who'd like any more info or pics send me your Email & I will forward some on! xx

Would truly love to but we've decided to wait a couple of years so that our lo will REALLY enjoy it!
He desperately wanted to go in Mickeys pool but as he's still in 'diapers' he wasnt able to so only went in the splash pool!
Tried to get him to Flounders Nursery too but he wasnt happy so I had to collect him early!!
Be better in couple years!!

14 Mar 07, 11:21 AM
Yes, time does fly by so fast-too fast when your on vacation!!
We will probably go back to Florida again sooner but wait & do the Cruise later on, both my DH & myself hate holidaying anywhere else now.We went to Cyprus back last summer & spent the whole time saying 'Wish we were in Florida'! So that was a real waste of money-Never again, will be Florida always now I think!

Michelle
14 Mar 07, 01:21 PM
Sally I know exactly how you feel. We have not holidayed anywhere else for a good few years
We tried to goto Majorca and wished we were in Florida (WDW) the whole time, would of probably been cheaper too ;)
Now with booking the DCL it's like going for the first time all over again.

Alot depends what time of year you go, and how far in advance you book (the earlier, the better the price - and DCL is rarely discounted except to Florida residents). It also depends what type of cabin you get an inside cat. 12 being the cheapest, all the way up to a masive suite cat.1 type and alsorts in between (with/without verandas etc....)

The best value season tends to be Nov. / Jan / early Feb. when the weather/sea is less predictable....but largely very pleasant.

Check the Disney Cruise Line website for prices, though some US T/As can give you slightly better prices (they can't offer big discounts anymore :( ) and/or perks, such as onboard credits.

If you can fit it in, then a 4 night (3 day) cruise is not massively more than a 3 night (2 day) and you get a whole extra day of magic....
