if your staying in a villa....dont put your rubbish out ,either in the bin or in bin liners at night...or you will be picking all the rubbish up off the floor outside,,,after the racoons and whatever else has been feasting all night..
whenever we go we just double bin liner the rubbish up and save it for the bin man day....the info sheet you get with the villa should tell you what days the bin men come...........hope ive been some assistance.

In the Condo community where we stay you can take your bagged trash to a central dumpster which solves the raccoon problem!

great tip, but, in every villa I have stayed in the trash men have been befor we were up! I think they must start at 5 in the morning!
We had racoons around neighbours bins in Highlands Reserve, they were not scared of us and one came right up to my Uncle.. I said don't touch it as it may have rabies.. though they look so cute :)
next door got a trash violation sign slapped to his front door, £50..
saw a group of Turkey vultures around one bin too .. my those things are huge!
you would think everyone would have racoon proof bins really ..

Where we stay the rubbish stays outside in a normal dustbin all of the time and gets put to the front of the property the night before the trash men come. Never had a problem with any kind of animals, maybe it depends on the community (so are more prone to racoons than others).

Yes some are more prone due to backing onto conservation areas etc ..
on highlands you are not allowed to leave your bin out on non collection days or you can receive a $50 violation charge which the owner/management company should explain to renters who are liable... they are supposed to be 'hidden' from view on non collection days ...

Also... I'm sure the villa we stayed in last year we had a limit to the number of bags we could put out, I think it was 3, anymore and we would get charged. Again, villa owners will inform you via an info sheet in the villa.

We stayed at Villas at Island Club in Feb, and everyone's rubbish was put in one of several dumpsters scattered around. There were racoons there as soon as it was dark, they are so cute.......it was great to see some proper local wildlife in the flesh...even if they were being naughty:D

Please note, rubbish is collected twice a week on the communities. I think this is because of the heat and food combination.
But if you miss one collection , then its only a couple of days before the next.
One good thing about the refuse collection over there, they take absolutely everything and anything, unlike the jobsworths here in Rochdale who wont empty even if the lids raised half an inch, or leave the bin still half full of now rotting food, that then has to wait yet another two weeks to be removed.

:wavey: when we stayed in villa at spring lakes we were told to put rubbish out first thing in the morning and take bin in soon as dustmen had been or we could get a fine:cry: but we didnt take bin in till we got back late on .was all ok:thumbs-up

We have wheelie bins with lids which are more practical as the lids of the ordinary bins get lost as they are slung on the ground alongside the bin - if you are lucky!
Anything left in a plastic bag will be strewn all over the road/lawn overnight by the visiting wildlife, which will not be picked up by the bin men, and likely incur a fine by the Housing Association to the owner. Which is why we all have notices about when to leave the bins out etc.
Have to agree they are much more accommodating about taking everything bar the kitchen sink, but when you want to get rid of the kitchen sink (well broken dryer in our case!) we phoned another department, they told us a day to leave it out, and along they came with an amazing lorry with a grabber thing that picked it up and put it on. And not a single charge to us. Boy could our councils learn something - and normal collections twice a week unless it is a holiday.

The rental home we stayed at over the last couple of years is on a community where they have 'bench mate' storage outside each home. You put your bagged trash inside, close the lid, and they collect daily.
