View Full Version : 6 in a 5 bedded room...would you risk it?

GIRLPOWER

This is our 1st time in florida and we would like to stay at the hard rock hotel for 1 night to use the fastpass system.

There are 6 of us, 2 adults and 4 children aged 16, 15, 6 and 5.

They only have 5 bedded rooms so it will cost double the price to have 2 rooms.

We only need to sleep there so I can not see how they would know the 5 & 6 year old have shared a bed.

Has anyone done this or is it a massive no no.

Thanks in advance.

You will only get 5 front of line passes aswell:(
I have had 5 in a travellodge room when they are for 4 but don't think I would chance hotel. It is expensive when you have to have 2 rooms isn't it?
Don't know what to suggest. Do you know anyone who is going at the same time?.

know what your saying.. and I would die a thousand deaths but how would they possibly know.

My husband checks us in and drops in the bags we go to the park and out for dinner.. we go back to the room have a sleep and the next mornign we are gone.

Anyone done this or think its a safe bet?

one person wouldn't have a FOTL pass and you would also probably be violating fire safety regulations.. I wouldn't risk personally

I would pay the extra for a connecting room

I have done this in travelodge as well and no way would they ever know which gave me the idea.

If my 2 young boys needed a bed each then I would get then one but they have bunks at home and stll share the same bed.

Just don't know if I am brave enough to risk it there. Need to hear a few success stories.

I would say it is a massive no no. Apart from the rooms sleeping four (5 max with a roll out) it is stated clearly on the hotel websites that 'The total number of guests, adults plus children, cannot exceed five (5) persons'. If it says that, you should not even try it. If anything happened you are not covered for insurance. If I had travelled to Florida and spent all that money, I would pay for the comfort of an extra room.

You won't get enough passes anyway .And would have to buy 2 days worth.

Have to agree re the ins issue - that would really worry me, especially if anything happened and the emergency services only thought there were 5 in the room!! :nonono:

We stay at the HRH and to be honest 4 people is a squash as they arent particularly big rooms. And as said above, you will only get 5 FOTL passes (cant trick past this one as they are room keys with names on - so you wouldnt be able to ride all together). Also insurance purposes - no no!! :wavey:

Hi :wavey:

We had our 4 passes last year and met up with somone and he used my room key to go on Mummy quite a few times:omg:

Wouldnt it be as cheap and less stressful just to buy the day fast passes??

We have stayed in hotels that are meant to have 2 king beds and they never seem to be, and the housekeeping staff will know how many people you have in there. The rooms are not that large and 6 people, even just for the night will be very cramped.

Villas are all licenced under the hotel side of the county and our management company can get the sherriff in to eject people who are breaking the number staying quota. They get kicked out with no recompense for outstanding rental that may be due. We also have to supply full list of people staying in case of emergency.

I know you are only staying 1 night but I wouldn't risk it myself.

Hello,
In the event of an accident with the person you maybe planning on not admitting to, & i hope it isn't the children. If they were to have a bad accident, they wouldn't be covered as they are not accountered for in that one day window period..
Deep down you probably know its wrong so its really not worth doing.
On another note which relates to another example, people were probably doing this at Butlins in the UK last Christmas/New Year as they checked in every name with every person and have really clamped down. Before they just used to let the cars through.
They might do it there & then you may get placed in an awkward position in then planning on where to stay or do that day/night.
When my family & i went to Crete last year, i said that my youngest who was one would be fine in bed with me, but then a few weeks later the Tour Operator had to change our Hotel as they said it was against the Hotels rules & regulations and that because she was one she had to have her own cot & the hotel prior wouldn't cater for this. This wasn't my fault.
I personally wouldn't do it for the sake of what you are doing it for.
I hope you choose well. :spin:

i would try, when checking in just make sure one of them is out the way.

its only for 1 night so its not like the rest of the holiday you would have no room...... GO FOR IT!!!!

I would have to say no too, if it clearly states a room for max 5, then that I'm afraid is what they mean and you should respect that. (and even 5 would be a crush!)
Have you looked at other nearby hotels with perhaps 2 bedroom suites? Or go off site, get a really cheap hotel and buy the passes with the money you save?

Im sorry but the hotel conditions state very clearly that the rooms are for no more than five. To do anything other than sleep five in the room is wrong and more than that dangerous. I dont feel anyone should be encouraged to go against the terms and conditions of a hotel, especially when the terms are clearly stated.

It's wrong, potentially dangerous, possibly actionable... and you won't get the full number of Express Passes anyway! :nonono:

MrLazy
15 Mar 07, 01:55 PM
Last year we booked one room and they did let us sleep 6 although our children were a good bit younger than yours - they said they shouldnt really due to health and safety but if you only try and blag it for 5 you will only get 5 FOTL passes.

This year we are just booking 2 rooms and staying at the cheaper hotel - at the end of the day you dont utilise the hotel so we will just take the hit - it still works out cheaper than buying the Express pass for 6 anyway.

I think the biggest issue is health and safety so either come clean with them and chance it they may just say yes or get a second room.

Scotsmomma
15 Mar 07, 01:56 PM
LMAO Mike....I wouldn't do it...but I do remember in the good old days of the Scotland England games at Wembley....my older brother and his mates used to pay for one room...then about 16 of them would sleep in it...

Ok....back to topic....

MrLazy
15 Mar 07, 01:57 PM
Although everyone is saying it is wrong as I have said they let us do it last year so if you tell them and they are aware then you are not doing anything wrong.

The danger is they may say no and they may not have any rooms available so as bully would say "thats the gamble".

I'd be fine with this - I'm aways really miffed when some hotels charge an extra occupancy charge if there's more than 2 people in the room. Makes no difference to the hotel - most American couples use a bed each, apparently. So why not just keep the kids out of the way while you check in?

Have you asked the hotel? There were 5 of us when we stayed there, but we had a room with two double beds and a double sofa bed, so they may allow your younger ones to share a double sofa.

That's a good point, some hotels have family rooms that sleep up to six, we stayed in one in the Hilton that had two queens and a double sofa bed too :).

When we went to RPR last year there were 4 of us and we all had to check in to get room keys/FOTL, which are printed with the names of the guests.
Don't know if Hard Rock have family rooms, I thought they were all 2 queens + 1 rollaway, which wouldn't be big enough for 6. As 2 of the children are teenagers I cant see them letting you do this. It may be different if they were all under 10, even so they could argue 1 adult and 2 chidlren per room = 2 rooms.
Personally I wouldn't do it.

We stayed at HRH last November and they asked for all members of our party to be present at check-in! Also the rooms are not that big! We had two large beds in ours and with a rollaway bed in there it would be quite a squeeze, especially as you have teenage children! Personally i feel the rules are there for a reason and i wouldn't be happy trying to sneak in an extra guest!

Girlpower I see that you are only planning to stay in the Hard Rock for 1 night to get the FOTL access - where will you be staying the rest of your vacation? I only ask because we booked a room at Hard Rock last Easter for FOTL access but didn't actually stay there - we slept at our 2-bedroom v1lla at Disney OKW. If you are planning on doing something similar I do not see any harm in asking for 6 FOTL passes. If you are going down this route you could also save money by going for the RPR hotel which is cheaper but still gives you FOTL.

Hard Rock also has suites including some 2-bedroom ones which feature a Kingsize bed in the main bedroom and 2 double beds in the 2nd bedroom - easily enough for a family of 6 yet strangely they still have a max occupancy of 5 for these rooms!

If you want to look at other places to stay consider booking on www.spg.com (the Starwood (Sheraton) Preferred Guest website) which only asks how many ADULTS are staying. :thumbs-up

Happy planning.

DB who lives in Florida does this all the time and nobody says anything, they just go to reception book a family room and then they all pile into the one room, is kids at the time were 3,6,8,10, so having seen this I would go for it:wave:

But if the room states a maximum of 5 people and you sneak an extra guest in you will only get 5 FOTL passes for a family of 6, which means they won't be able to ride together!
When we were there last November every member of our party had to show their passes at each ride, even the children! They were quite strict about it!

Thank you for your reply.

We booked a cruise for 7 nights going from port canaverial so we have 2 nights before the cruise where we planned to do uniserval and 5 nights after where we plan to do 4 disney and 1 at seaworld.

we have booked via alpharooms the deluxe orlando convention centre for after the cruise but have yet to book anything for the 2 nights we arrive. I would have liked to book HRH for 2 nights but it's so expensive! sothough we could book the above hotel for 1 night on arrival then stay at the HRH for the following night.

I had though that we would only get 5 FOL but we could have purchased 1 express pass for then 6th person. Are these not the same thing?

No, the express passes can only be used once per ride whereas FOTL gives you unlimited access!

Thats fine as think with the time we have which is 1 and a half days to get around both parks once per ride would be fine.

Thanks for clearing that up.

Thank you.

$383.46 for 6 of us over 2 days for the express passes. plus 1 nights accom off site which is about £40.00 per night with the hotel we are using after the cruise.

If we had a 5 bedded room in the RPH for 1 night instead of the HRH we would save a lot of $$$$

Just a thought:grin:

I think your best bet is to ring the hotel, explain the situation and see what they say - they may have rooms with a double sofa bed that you can book.

I personally would not do it as it would cause me to worry and might spoil the holiday, I would pay the extra and have the extra space, we stayed at RPR in a family room last year for FOL access and the rooms are not very big. When you look at the total cost of the holiday an extra room for one night isn't that much extra money. :spin: Hope you make a decision that you are comfortable with. :spin:

If it were just one night and your youngest two sharing a bed then i would do it but the main reason you are staying here is for FOTL passes - which you will only get 5 of ? No way round that.

If you are planning in going on each ride only once then why not plan to be at the park for opening ? I go in July normally, one of the bsuiest times and i manage to get in the park and on all the major rides before any big queues begin. Longest wait about 30 mins once you hit Suess landing. Then you can go around the park again takingin the more smaller details, ok the queues are longer second time around but your only wantingto ride once you said.

If you have younger ones you will be doing child swap possibly too ? This may add more time to your wait as you will need to ride it twice.

If you havnt booked yet i would call them and say you have 6 and could they possibly let you all stay together, its worth a shot then you can get 6 passes too.

As far as I am aware the only hotel that you can book the deluxe room which has 2 queen beds and a pull out double is at Portofino Bay. We are a party of five and booked PBh last year. We wanted to stay at HRH this year but you are unable to book the club deluxe room which is what we want. They have 6 or 4 queen deluxe club rooms but they cannot be booked. I have had to book a queen club room and have emailed the hotel direct to ask them nicely to allocate one of the deluxe rooms to enable us to have the pull out rather than having to hire a rollaway or take our own.
Personally you would be pushed to squeeze 6 into RPR as the rooms are the smallest . When we checked in last year I did not require all 5 of us to be there. DH went and sat down with the girls while I checked in.
I know you are only using the hotel for the passes so why not book the cheapest room at RPR get your 5 FOL passes and not stay at the hotel.Either buy a pass for the youngest child or make do with the passes that you have .

I think it will be worth getting a room for the night in anycase just for the 5passes as it costs less.

I will ring them and get a price as we are in the AA and I'm sure I have read on here that they give you a discount if you ring direct.

whether we ill stay in it or not is another matter.

We stayed there for a night last year, and it was great to spend the night in the hotel, it mean't we could see the park at night, wander around city walk, (not too late around midnight as we had a nine year old with us) and we could have a drink and not have to drive back to our accomodation.
It also meant that we were at the IOA on our check out day for it opening.

Yes if you phone to book and ask for AAA rate if there is a rate available for your date they will quote you. Have a look at bookit.com as they show the AAA rate. I used them to give me an idea of the cost then phoned to book and the rate was the same as bookit.
