Food, Glorious Food!

Dining on board a Disney ship certainly means you’ll never go hungry!

There are 3 main restaurants for dinner, which you visit on a rotational basis:
Lumieres – a beautiful French-style restaurant themed on Beauty & the Beast
(On the Wonder it’s called ‘Triton’s and has an underwater theme and a beautiful mosaic of Ariel and her father)
Animator’s Palate – a monochrome restaurant with animation pictures all round the walls which gradually gain colour over the course of the evening, watch out for the show the servers put on too!
Parrot Cay – a more casual, colourful, tropically-themed restaurant

DCL suggests a dress code for dinner, but it is not a strictly enforced rule. Smart casual is the order of the day, and pirate or tropical dress for Pirates of the Caribbean Night. On a 7 day cruise there is one formal and one semi-formal evening. Some people like to pull out all the stops and dress up, men in their tux, women in full length gowns; others look great in a smarter pair of trousers and top. The best thing is to remember is it’s your holiday so you should feel comfortable in what you’re wearing!

Dinner rotation
On boarding the ship you will receive a card with your dinner rotation printed on it, so if it’s a 7 day cruise you may do Lumieres, followed by Animators Palate, then Parrot Cay, then back again to Lumieres…etc. It will show as ‘LAPLAPL’. You are also assigned to a table with other cruisers. Tables usually hold from 4 to 10 people, although there are exceptions. Disney tries to sit you with similar family groups, so if you are a couple you should be sat with other couples, families with small children with similar families etc. However this doesn’t always work out. If you want to check your dining table you can go to Rockin’ Bar D on boarding and ask staff to check for you.

There are 2 separate sittings available for dinner which you can request on booking, an early (timings between 5.30 and 6) or a late option (timings between 8 and 8.30). Disney will do their best to accommodate you but make no guarantees.

Each dining table has a main server and an assistant assigned to your party, and they will move from restaurant to restaurant with you each night, so they can get to know your likes and dislikes etc. Inform them of any particular food allergies or special diets on arrival. This can also be done on booking) They can arrange for things like Soya milk to be available. A Head server will also be in charge of a whole section of the restaurant and will be sure to look after your party too.

The menu’s have plenty of choice, always with plainer and low-fat options, children’s choices, and special menu’s throughout the cruise. A favourite is the Pirates of the Caribbean menu, the Captain’s Gala menu, and the Master Chef menu.

NOTE: These rotations and sittings are just for dinner, you are free to dine wherever, and whichever time you choose, for breakfast and lunch.

Palo
The extra special restaurant with a Mediterranean flavour. This can be booked online at the 90 day mark, or as soon as you board, once for dinner, once for the superb champagne brunch, (with a vast array of seafood, desserts, fruit, pastries and entrees) and on some cruises for high tea. It costs an extra $10 per person but is absolutely worth it! Dine in comfort overlooking the ocean, and if you’re there for dinner do try the famous chocolate soufflé! This more formal restaurant does ask that guests dress accordingly, so no shorts, flip flops, beach wear or jeans! Jackets are preferred for men.

Other Dining options
Try Topsiders (Beach Blanket Buffet on the Wonder) for a more casual buffet experience, or fast food from one of the many ‘snack shacks’ such as Pinocchio’s Pizzeria, Scoops and Fruit Station, Pluto’s dog House (also has burgers, nacho’s and wraps) or the Outlook Bar, which on certain days may have chicken wings and paninis.
The Beverage station on deck9 where you can find 24 hour sodas and coffee, offers pastries early in the morning and cookies later in the day on certain days.
Quiet Cove Café also offers pastries to eat along side specialty coffees (extra charge)

You may also find snacks at various locations around the ship on different days.

PLUS!
Don’t forget the special late night dessert buffets, the midnight buffet on pirate night….and of course 24 hour room service! Room service can provide anything from sandwiches, wraps and cookies, to chicken tenders, burgers, soup and fries. It offers wonderful desserts, cakes of the day, a great cheese plate….and even Mickey ice cream bars! Order your morning coffee the night before and when it arrives at your chosen wake up time, drink it on your balcony if you’re lucky enough to have one!

.............and lastly (but not least!)

DRINKS
The many bars and lounges across the ship offer all manner of drinks, both alcoholic and non-. Try DCL’s ‘drink of the day’….the Bahama Mama’s are especially wonderful, particularly when drunk in that gorgeous Caribbean sunshine! Just remember to keep a note of how much you’re signing away fro drinks, they can really add up at the end of a cruise!;)
