Has anyone any info on Cat 6 staterooms? We had a Cat 11 last time - I thought it was lovely and was happy to have one again this time but DH really wanted one with a verandah. Are they worth the extra dosh? What can I expect to be different apart from the obvious verandah?
Thanks
Natalie

I've stayed in a cat 11 and then in Cat 6's, and we have a cat 6 booked for both of our next cruises so I think you cna guess which we prefer!;)
Having said that, we loved our week in the cat 11 and found no fault with it (although we were on our honeymoon!!!!!!!;)) A cat 6 has that much more room, and especially if it's for a family I would appreciate that room. We really love our balcony too, as I love to just sit and relax watching the sea. I especially loved waking up early on the morning you dock at castaway cay and watching the beautiful island come into view from our balcony.

Ah I thought it might be for 3. We have booked a Cat 7 but got a regraded Cat 5 with verandah.
The reason I asked is that they will only sleep 3.
Apparently the rooms used to be Cat 5, but have the slightly obscured view and those that booked them as a Cat 5 complained and now they have been graded down to Cat 7's.
Just thought it would of helped save some pennies :)

On our first cruise we booked a Cat. 9 (with a porthole) and loved it. On our 2nd cruise we booked Cat. 9 again and got a free upgrade to a Cat. 6 and then we were hooked. The room itself was about the same size as a Cat. 9, but having the verandah was brilliant, hubby likes to sit out there with a cocktail when the 3 women (me and 2 DD's) are getting ready. It is so nice to just sit outside as the ship is docking at the different ports, and now we always book Cat. 6 - you'll love it

We wanted a verandah so have booked a Cat 6, there are 4 of us so we though the extra space would be worth it.
We have booked a cat 6 for our first cruise in August and we are so excited about having our own verandah. I can't wait to go outside with my first glass of wine and gaze out at the waves. Bliss...... :cool2:
I also thought it would be a great place to spend some 'quality' time with DH when the kids are sleeping (he tends to look straight past/through me if there is a TV ANYWHERE in the vicinity LOL :))

What is the difference in a cat 6 and a cat 4? I booked a cat 4 because it had a verandah and would sleep the 4 of us, but I now see that cat 6 also has a verandah and sleeps 4!
have I made a very big and very costly mistake? Do you think i should cancel and re-book a cat 6 room seeing as they are exactly the same as a cat 4? or do they differ some how?

The cat4 is a bigger cabin.... and actually sleeps 5 (304ftsq compared to 268ftsq)- but you are right ,the cat6 does have a veranda, also there are a limited number of cat 7s that are cheaper still that have obscured verandahs.
You can also book the cheaper, 'navigators' verandas (the standard cat7s ) these are semi enclosed verandahs - they have walls with a large open porthole (not a glass window, those are cat9.s) rather than (perspex covered) railings.
You don't need to cancel your whole booking to change your room.... just inform your T/A (I'm presuming you are with a US T/A ?) to make the switch, but check the price of the lower cabin with them first - strange things can happen in cat. pricing !!! and sometime there can be very little difference in price between grades (occasionally lower cats can even be dearer !!) or no availablity, or poor cabin location, in the next grade down.
I would ring the TA, and see how things are on your cruise for other cabin availability/price before you decide - switching is easy...you would simply get a refund between the two prices, if you are under the number of days required before final deposit is due (sorry I don't know what that is for a cat4 ...could be 90 days rather than the 75 for cat5 and below :confused2 ).
You shouldn't have a problem changing but just assess all the options / prices first.

Thanks for that, I think I will drop dreams an email and see what they quote for a cat 6 and if there is a significant difference then I will ask about swapping, if there isnt that much in it then i will just leave it as it is, I quite like the look of the location of our stateroom as it stands at the moment, mid ship and quick and easy access to deck 9.
Not sure how the cat 4's sleep 5 though? I thought there was just a double bed and a single sofa bed and a single bed that drops from the ceiling? where does the 5th person sleep???

There is a twin murphy bed that comes down from the wall - thus accounting for the extra 30ft or so over the cat 5&6.
You are also on a higher deck in a cat4 ..with the gentry that can afford the cat 3, 2 & 1 cabins ;)

Ohh thats great to know about the twin bed that comes down from the wall, means that DD's can sleep together and we can leave the sofa as a sofa if you know what I mean! :D Just means we wont be all tripping over one another as much with a bit of luck!
