I have just noticed that the dollar is creeping up again, so if I paid off my balance now the exchange rate would be in my favour, I have the money to pay off the balance, but seeing as we are not going until Jan 08 do you think its too early to pay it off? what would you do?

Personally, I would pay it off if you have the money. I paid ours in full when we booked as the exchange rate was too good to pass up. In the past we have had an exchange rate as low as 1.36, I know it's not likely but what if the dollar were to drop again - how would you feel knowing that you had the opportunity to pay it while the dollar was high and you didn't bother? I would feel gutted. Also, you can still get a full refund until 75 days before you cruise (I think this is correct) so God forbid if anything were to happen to stop you going on holiday you could still get your money back - If you are not going to need the money for anything else before your balance is due I would go for it!

If you are happy then go for it ........and don't look back..its always good to have some elements of your trip paid early anyway, for budgeting purposes . :)

Thanks guys, the rate at the moment is just too good to pass up, it may go up a bit more but then again it may drop and I would be gutted if that happened!
So, have just paid up :)
cant believe how organised I am! flights, villa, cruise, discovery cove all paid up in full... wooo hoooo! feels great!
only thing left now is to get park tickets and book ADR's :)
Would like to have paid for HRH in full too but they only take the first nights stay as deposit and you have to pay the rest on check out :(
well done you!:) How nice to be so organised!;)

Great news Sam, don't blame you for taking advantage of the good $$ rate.

I thought the amount due was fixed and not dependant on the Exchange rate? Would the money be earning you interest if it was in your bank?

If you are booking direct with DCL or a an American TA......which quite alot of us are (because they are often substancially cheaper than UK companies),........... then the balance (and the initial deposit ! ) is payable in $s - hence the benefit of a good exchange rate - hope this clarifies the situation :wavey:

I'm in the same situation- we're booked for May 2008, but as I worked out how much the cruise would cost in dollars when we booked -then with the exchange rate @ 1.96, it is about £1350. If the exchange rate drops say 10 cents, this adds another £50 or so onto my balance. So after reading that you've paid up, I think I'll do the same and take advantage - just hope it doesn't go over 2 dollars to the pound- saying that I hope it does as I'm going to Orlando in four weeks so every little helps!!

There's nothing stopping you hedging your bets if you wanted, by paying off some of the balance, then watching the dollar movements....before deciding when to make further payments :thumbs-up

Just paid $1000 off our balance today. :spin:

I paid off mine when the $$ was creeping up as I was concerned off a drop again - $1.89. I must admit it felt good at the time. Seeing the rate soar higher after this was a downer but it could have been worse.

Its not worth worrying about :) ...I'm sure you will be laughing if the rate has dropped when your final balance would have been due.
....till then, the main thing is that you paid less than when you first booked your cruise......anything else would have been a bonus...
... just think, if the rate had dropped and you hadn't paid - now that would have been a real downer.

We booked our cruise last month and opted to pay just over half the amount to take advantage of the exchange rate - $4000. Used credit card at a rate of 1.95. The cruise isn't until Nov08 but thought this limits the damage should the rate drop. Hopefully we'll get it paid off come october this year. Would be great to get that bit paid off and then be able to forget about it!!
