Following on from the food thread I was wondering about ordering the wine package, both DH and I love wine (him red, me white) but it does seem mighty expensive for a 3 night cruise ($119 I think) around $40 per night :erm:

Anyone experienced it and is it worth it?

Also, while I'm about it - just how expensive are all these 'Bahama Mamas' that I keep reading about in trip reports on the 'other side'. Everyone seems to be downing them like water!

Hi Sue
We did the 'Basic' wine pkg which was a bottle of decent wine per night, cost $79 +tax. Wine was otherwise around $30+tax a bottle so it was cheaper to do it this way(slightly!)
You get to choose a different bottle each night if you want from a good selection of red/white/rose & if you dont finish it, you can have it at lunch or in stateroom or save for next night...I always finished ours!
Bahama Mamas??Must mean the drink of the day which are a cocktail.
On our cruise they were 'Planters Punch' , 'Stingray' & 'Bahama Mama'...A different one each day, the only ones we had were 'Stingray' as that was my Birthday evening so we splashed out!!Cant remember exactly how much they were but once you'v paid for 1st you can then get refill at a reduced cost and the glass is yours to keep-Ours light up!!They were lovely so we did have quite a few!LOL!!

I think you need mandymouse to reply on this thread as she is the resident Bahama Mamas expert. I have no idea what they are but I am looking forward to trying one (or two ;) )

I'm taking bottles of wine onboard in my carry on - I have bought a rolling cooler for hubby especially for this and his beer. Stock up at walmart and its 1/4 of the the price.

I was going to do the same as Karen, along with bottled water :D

We've done the wine package too but I'm not sure its great value. We also intend to buy some wine beforehand this time I think....and some duty free champagne!:)

Bahama Mama's are lovely...a rum cocktail as follows:

½ oz White Rum
½ oz Meyers Rum
½ oz Creme De Banana
½ oz Malibu Rum
2 oz O.J.
2 oz Pineapple Juice
Dash of Grenadine

yum! and they're around $3.50 :)

If your travelling down to the port by car, there's a very handy Publix just off the highway before you get to the port ;)

We'll stock up then. Are the fridges in the rooms large enough for a couple of bottles of wine and some water?

Yes, they are a small box type ..though more 'cool' than 'cold' unfortunately ...but you can order ice from room service, so with a bit of preparation you can 'chill' wine nicely :)

Is taking alcohol on board allowed?

Strictly speaking I don't think it is, but just about everybody does it, and it is tolerated as long as you don't make it too obvious ! A bit like the fact that you are not really supposed to take picnics into the parks....

For obvious reasons they don't encourage it !

I wanted to take some champagne on board, is there an ice bucket in the room or could I request one from room service?
Had looked into the wine package but I dont think we will bother, DH doesnt drink alcohol with meals for some weird reason, and although I have no problems finishing off the bottle myself I think I will just stick to bahama mamas and a sniffter of something sitting on the verandah when the kids are in bed :)
