Hi All,

Florida is famous for its oranges - so are oranges (eg Juice) nice and cheap and easy to come by (In supermarkets, Restaurants and Parks)?

Any brands recommended?

Also, Im pretty sure I have seen a picture of a huge "orange shop"? Is it all Orange products, and any good?!

Thanx,

You can get "OJ" everywhere - fresh, cartons, bottles etc.

And yes, the giant orange is still there - never stopped at it tho.

Yes, they are easy to come by! We drove to St Augustine and passed loads of roadside stalls, some will even ship oranges to your home (though I am not sure they will do it to the UK). The big orange is a fairly tacky souvenir store, DD loved it when she was 12 ish and bought lots of cheapy presents for her mates back home, orange flavoured gum and salt water taffy! Try it, its fun.

If you take a drive through the groves you will find growers selling oranges by the roadside. You can have a box shipped home if you want. OJ is available everywhere and very cheaply.

Hi there

There is a big orange shop on the 192 next to the huge flee market. That's the one thats shaped like a huge orange. I can't remember what marker post its on but it east on 192 heading towards the big Walmart on Bass Road. The oranges over there are so tasty and sweet. My kids loved them.

We actually were surprised at the price of juice in the restaurants. My two DDs don't like anything fizzy, so we can never get them the ridiculously cheap, free-refill sodas, but have to buy juice. Much better for them but its always a lot more, you never get refills and it usually isn't included as an option in the kid's menus. You'd have thought it would be more freely available and cheaper!

I always got to the store and buy Tropicana Oj when in Orlando then moan about how much I pay in Tesco for the same thing. My family say it's my Victor Meldrew moment ( the only one I hasten to add!) a I really can't get over how much cheaper it is.
And I don't care that Tesco have to fly it over - it's not like they ship two cartons over just for me!

Hi we did the city tour last year and we where told that Florida really doesn't produce much in the way of oranges anymore, basically when groves are destroyed by storms, rather than plant more trees they'd rather build malls, hotels etc, for oranges to say they come from Florida they only have to pass through the port of Florida to be classed as Florida oranges, which is what a lot of growers do from all over the world

I have my own fruit trees out back and they produce all the citrus fruits and our small estate is surrounded by working groves that are owned and managed by the Florida Citrus Growers association. My trees are inspected yearly free by them for disease. Gators do not hang round in groves but the trees have spikes to protect themselves. Nothing like fruit straight from the tree and juiced with ice for a breakfast drink
Florida Orange and Citrus is alive and well

When you're next over give Pulix's own brand Premium juice a try it comes with or without pulp and is really lovely too.

Minute Maid orange juice is nice, and readily available every where.
