I am booked with TCD for 3 day Wonder Cruise. its costing us £1500. I have had a quote from DU for exactly the same cruise for £860. Have called TCD to see how much to cancel with them but haven't got back to me. Reckon with tips added and cancellation fee from TCD we would still save around £500. Anyone out there transferred from UK to US? What are the procedures? I would like to keep same room, dining time. etc. Do you pay for US to take over you booking then cancel UK or what? Very confused here.:confused2

Hi,
I don't think you can transfer from one TA to another TA, you can only transfer a direct booking with DCL to a TA .....as far as I'm aware.
For reasons of professional practice a TA would not take on another TAs booking ...this would lead to chaos and sharp practice amongst all the TAs and ultimately would not be in anyones best interest (apart frm the customer !).
The best you can do is to weigh up how much you could save against cancelling your existing booking and making a new one.
Points to consider ;
-Your UK TA price may include tips & gratuities
- You may have more consumer protection dealing with a UK T/A
- Get prices from as many different recommended/ reputable US T/As as you can, as well as DCL direct (see their website for prices) - take note of all their booking offers such as on board credits, cash backs etc., as well as the price.
- You can transfer a reservation from DCL (and keep any onboard credit they give you) to a US T/A (and have any of their onboard credits too) but not the other way round.
The benefits of booking with a US T/A are;
- they are generally much cheaper than UK operator prices
- you generally get more choice of stateroom types
- you will be able to book a specific stateroom, and make on line reservations for spa treatments, Palo restaurant ,excursions etc
- you will benefit from favourable exchange rates
- most cruises and categories of cabin have very generous cancellation/ transfer terms, compared to UK T/As
Good luck on saving some ££££ (or $$$$$) :thumbs-up
PS If you are sailing is in over 75 days time, and you have booked a cat 12 - cat 5, - It may be worth pointing out to TCD should you cancel, that since DCL themselves, will be returning the deposit that TCD have put on to secure your cruise, then you should expect to recieve a substancial portion of it back - if not, I'd want to know on what grounds they are justifying keeping it !!!

Thanks for that everyone. I will know next time just to book with US agent. I booked through TCD as we have our flights, hotel and park passes with them and thought it would be easier to keep everything together. Learn by your mistakes as they say!!!!

Last year I was thinking to booking the Disney Cruise and I went to travel shop and it was very expensive and they told me better book on internet to DU than in UK. I looked up on Virigin brochure and realised that it was very expensive.
I booked up with DU and it was very good, that why I let you know as you can cancel with TCD and book with DU. As lot cheaper!!
Also I see what jdybnsn give out lots of information. Hope that help.
I hope everything go well for you and get manage to change it and hope TCD not charged you lot.
Also I believe that lot of UK people not know about it as my boss never heard about medi. disney Cruise!! When I booked for two weeks holiday, she told me that.
I think not enough published in UK?

I'm sure you will have got a good deal on your flights & accommodation with TCD, so I would not be too unhappy - be positive , at least you will be saving on your next, possibly longer cruise ;) and if your gratuties were included, then thats another plus, as they will be paid for before you go.

Just out of interest did you get a reply from TCD about canceling the cruise bit ?
Since you have kept the main body of your holiday , and technically TCD won't be out of pocket with the cruise, I just wondered what their reply was ...just being nosey sorry :blush:

Haven't heard back from them yet. They supposidly have to contact DCL for some reason. I thought it would just be a fee to them. And yes I did have the thought that it shouldn't cost us anything as we already have a 14day package with them. But as usual they will have a clause somewhere that we loose some more money somewhere along the line. I have now lost the quote from DU as I should have paid my deposit today but I can't do that until I hear from TCD . Let you know as soon as I hear anything. I have also emailed DU twice asking about transferring my cruise but haven't heard from them either since I got the quote.

I am already thinking about 7 day cruise for DH and my 40th birthdays but that wouldn't be til Xmas 2009. So will get quotes from US next time and save ourselves some money. Need to be a good deal as it costs a fortune to be out there on christmas day. The kids would love this. Santa coming to DCL.

Wow ! a Christmas cruise - fantastic ...shhhhh don't tell my kids though - they would love that too :d: ...but which chimney on the ship exactly, would santa come down ? :confused2
Don't worry about the deposit with DU - they would soon send you a new quote if you needed one, and you'd be unlucky if prices changes so quickly this far out.
If you are serious about booking another cruise , don't forget to rebook (with DCL) when on board your first cruise, for a 10% discount (you won't get this again after you leave the ship) - even if you book a dummy date then transfer it when the dates you want become available (and then transfer to DU for some decent on board credits ;) )
Wishing you some luck with TCD. :pd :wavey:

Got email back from DU this morning. I would have to cancel with UK travel agent first then book with DU. they say I would get to keep same quote. I'm still waaaiiiiittttttiiiinnnnnnnggggg for TCD to get back to me. Still don't know if it will be worth while cancelling then re booking.
Let you know when TCD give me an answer. (Could be long enough!!!!)

Got reply from TCD today after yet another phone call. they called me back and there is NO CHARGE. should I go ahead and transfer?. Is it worth the hastle £500 to save. Will have to cancel with TCD so that room, dining seating etc is transferred back to DCL and then DU will re book.l

Absolutely YES !!!!! ....nothing could be easier than booking with DU !
£500 buys alot of extra treats on your holiday.... or a decent deposit to put down for your next cruise ;)
If it was £50 I'd do it
