Hi All

Has anyone out there booked a trip on a helicopter? We looked on one of the ticket websites, but wondered if anyone has booked it when they get there - or is it best to book it before we go?

Thanks

I booked a trip for DH with Liberty Helicopters, they were very good and seemed busy (mostly Brits taking the tour) but when we arrived, they did offer DD & I the chance to book a ride as well with little or no wait time.

We declined the offer but DH said it was one of the highlights of his holiday.

Just found this on the website:

Q - Do I need a reservation?
A - Please remember that all passengers must have a reservation to use our Downtown Pier 6 Heliport or our Paulus Hook Pier helistop in Jersey City, NJ. Walk-in customers are permitted at our VIP Heliport at West 30th Street and 12th Avenue.

I booked DH's trip online and he flew from Pier 6 but as I said, they did offer us the chance to go as well, although we had no booking.

Pier 6 is a good place to fly from as once you have finished you can walk to South Street Seaport (Pier 17) and then onto Brooklyn Bridge. We covered a lot of ground that day, you can read about it in my trip report here:

Hope this helps.

We did a walk-on with Liberty Helicopters in February. The reason we didn't book was in case the weather wasn't suitable or if we found we were not able to fit it in .But the weather wasfine and we did fit it in !Glad we did-a highlight of the holiday for us

We also did hel tour with Liberty Helicopters, we rang the same morning and was in the sky an hour later.

We did the 12 mins one i think. Was very good indeed and all passengers get a great view. The heaviest people sit at the back.

I cant quite remember how much it cost around $130 each comes to mind.

I would like to do one in the evening.

Thanks so much for the replies - I think we will book. I am just worried in case the weather is rubbish and don't get your money back.

But then I worry about everything.....

Thanks again

Hi
I am reading this with great interest as I am going to book my husband a trip as a birthday surprise. We have a New York Pass, is there a deal we can do using this??
I have read before that some rides are better than others, can anyone enlighten me?
Thanks

We went with Liberty Helicopters as well. We done it near the end of our holiday and had seen all the sites by then ie. statue of liberty, central park etc. I personally think its better to do it at the beginning of your break and then you get an overview of NYC before you start to explore it!! Still really enjoyed it though. We booked ours here before we left - think it was £50 each or something like that but that was a year ago. The day of the flight we got a taxi to the departure point and just walked back to our hotel afterwards (but the walk was further than we thought!!!). Our flight was late afternoon.

We walked to the Pier, not sure if it was the route we took but it was quite intimidating in places as we went through a rather run down area. Suggest a taxi!

Personally I was disappointed with the flight. 7 were crammed into the chopper (including pilot) 2 guests in front 4 in back, which meant 2 in the rear don't get a window view and have to lean over the person next, which is ok if you know them. The flight only went down to Statue of Liberty and back up the hudson as far as Central Park.

It was interesting to see NY from the air but I wouldn't say I'd highly recommend. They are very good on safety proceedures in case your worried.
