Looking to book a helicopter tour in August, just a few questions please:

1. Is it better to take a helicopter from Vegas or drive there first?
2. Papillion or Sundance or any others?
3. Are the internet prices best deals or can you get discounted rates somehow?
4. Which 'package' have you done? Any recommendations?

All advice appreciated,
Peter

It takes about 3-4 hours to drive to the Grand Canyon from LV, i don't know of any tours that just do one way, but there might be some.

We did ours with Papillion, we did the lunch-time champagne flight and i'd highly recommend it. They pick up and drop off at your hotel too.

We did Heli USA (I think - was 6 years ago). Flew from Las Vegas airport and we went below the rim. It was fantastic and lasted about 2 hours. Really really good.

Ive also done the heli usa trip as well.

We flew from LV and over the canyon and then on to the ranch for breakfast and option to horse ride and then flight back to LV and down the strip.

It was the highlight of the holiday, it was amazing and the company well organised and made for my friend the nervous flier, put her at easy and explained everything beofre we set off.

This company didnt land in the canyon but I think we would have found that too scary and with all the helicopters flying over not an enjoyble place for breakfast but with the ranch landing and the chance to look around at the cowboys, ( they bred cattle for rodeos ) made it more of an experience.

Now I may be tempted to do the walkway now it is open?

I know heli usa have a website and videos to watch about the experience on offer and a chance to see whats on offer.

hjope you have a great time

We came back from Vegas last month and did a helicopter tour with Sundance and I cant recommend it enough. We got picked up from our hotel by limo and driven to the airport (heliport) we had a helicopter that seated 6 plus the driver and landed inside the Canyon for a champagne picnic. It was a sunset tour so we flew back when the sun was setting and by the time we got back to the strip it was dark and all the lights were on. Words can describe how amazing it was, you have to do it.

Would fly with Sundance again if we ever went back.

I went with papillon, collected from hotel in luxury bus, flight in small plane to canyon, helicopter trip to the base and then a boat trip down the Colorado. Included a picnic lunch and bus trip to other areas around the canyon. The flight there included a trip over the Hoover damn.

Whichever trip you decide I KNOW you'll be 'blown away'. It's one of the most fabulous sights I've seen (much better than Uluru - Ayers rock) Literally took my breath away!!

Worth doing!!

We were in Las Vegas in February & did the Sunset flight with Sundance helicopters. They picked us up from the hotel in a limo at approx 2.40 for quick ride to airport. Flew to Grand Cnayon & landed for champagne picnic. We didn't really need the picnic but the drink was nice! Water & soft drinks provided too, But being in the Grand Canyon was amazing. We then flew back to catch the sunset. Great photos

Back in las Vegas it was dark & we flew down the strip
Limo back to hotel.

It wasn't cheap but as a once in a life time experience it was worth it.

We didn't book before we went but in resort with Virgin.

If you do choose a heli tour try to get the earliest, or better still the sunset flight. Avoid the hottest parts of the day as the thermals can make the flight a little bumpy to say the least.

Hi we did the heli usa ranch adventure in February. Helicopter to the south rim of the canyon, then breakfast on the ranch followed by horseriding. It had snowed the night before so it was extra special. I have also done the sundance champagne picnic at sunset which was also really good but I preferred the ranch. We took my 76 year old mother and 78 year old MIL and they went horse riding too, even with a knee replacement. They absolutely loved it and want to go back as soon as poss.

Hi we did the tour last October ..picked up at hotel by luxury
mini-bus..light airplane flew over Hoover Dam and Lake Mead on way to
caynon..it was amazing . Bus was waiting to take us to the South Rim of
the caynon, we were given a packed lunch ( water/apple/ham bap/crisps)
which you ate on the way .When we arrived at the rim you had the choice to either stay there and wander round on your own or re-join the group after an hour and visit a different view-point...Im so glad we did the second view-point was even more amazing than the first .Then it was back on the bus , for the return trip ...the trip took app. 12 hours door to door . A tip ..no matter how hot it is when you leave Las Vegas bring a warm jacket with you ..when the sun goes down it gets very cold very quickely .No matter who you decide to travel with ..it will be an unforgetable experience ...:thumbs-up
