Ok, tried this for the first time last year, my aunt insisted i couldnt visit Florida and not try Key Lime Pie. She is from Florida so who was i to say no to her "national dish" ( i thought it was the cheeseburger lol) anyway i made her try haggis just recently. Well, i loved the pie.

So has anyone tried it and where is the best place to buy one ? Walmart ? My aunt made her own and unfortunately she wont be at her home in Daytona when i go to Orlando this year so cant visit her and my uncle. So where can i buy one !!

YUM

Only tried it once last year - shame on me. This was from the Crown Colony at Busch Gardens & it was heaven on my tongue !!! Oooh, have I got the right words? Crown Colony? Or am I getting confused with where I got my dollars? Anyhow - whatever, it was delicious & I'm so looking forward to trying it again & again & again & again.

We tried that too Faye and I have to say for us all it was absolutely awful. We left it all as it was sickly sweet. It sure looked good but was solid sugar. I was not impressed at all. If you had been there I would have gladly given it to you. Its the only bad thing I remember about B.Breeze - really really bad!

I would say go for it then Leanne! The opinions on the KLP from B.Breeze on the Dibb are either luv it or lump it. I couldnt eat it. We had a problem with it as well as they served it at room temperature and the middle was warmish and was collapsing - our only disappointment in one of our favourite restaurants. When Fiona answers this thread you will have another defender of the dessert on board!:D

Thanks Margaret. We have free DDP this year so i will be seeking out a good key lime pie on-site hopefully.
We are hoping to go to the California Grill and Yachtmans Steakhouse so maybe i might find a good one there.:tounge:

I bought a wonderful recipe book in DTD a couple of years ago called 'Cooking with Mickey and the Disney Chefs'. It has recipes from many of the resort restaurants, theme park restaurants in WDW and Disneyland California as well as favourite recipes from the Disney Cruise line!
This one is from Olivia's Cafe:

5 large egg yolks ( I often find 3 is enough)
1 can (14oz) of sweetened condensed milk
2/3 cup of key lime juice ( I use the juice of 2 limes and the zest of one of the limes)
1 prepared graham cracker crust ( it's basically your average digestive and melted butter cheesecake type base pressed into an oven proof flan dish)

1/ Preheat oven to 350F (180C or gas mark 4)
2/ gently whisk the egg yolks in a bowl (do not let them foam) stirring constantly. Slowly blend in the lime juice (and zest) and sweetenend condensed milk.
3/ Pour the mixture into the piecrust and bake for 12 to 15 mins, or until set
4/ Remove pie from oven and cool to room temperature, then chill (covered) until very cold
5/serve chilled, cut into wedges (delicious with whipped cream!!)
6/ ENJOY!!!! :tounge: :tounge:

Absolutely love Key Lime pie although we've only ever eaten it at two different venues - Houes of Blues & Bahama Breeze . I have to say that I prefer the HOB version as it's served with a fantastic raspberry drizzle, although both are delicious .Mmmmmm

Cheers

You can get them in Publix - either a whole one or a half one. If there are none on display - ask at the bakery counter and they will get one out of the freezer for you. Very tasty!!!
