View Full Version : Edinburgh
I know it's a long way off but am thinking of a girly weekend in Edinburgh, towards the end of November.
Can anyone recommend a decent hotel either in or near the main shopping area?
Thanks

the holiday inn express are good - always clean and comfortable and not over pricey - the one in the centre tends to be more expensive and fills up quickly the one at the water near the royal britannia is great the bus stops outside and only costs £2 per day (last years price) - so not too sure of the other hotels but hopefuly someone from the central belt will be along with lots of info
enjoy yourself
Some friends and I (who shall remain nameless! ;) ) are also thinking of a trip to Edinburgh so I shall be interested to read any replies

Nowhere particular to recommend, just to say that you will get a lot more for your money if you can stay outside of the city centre a bit. There are loads of nice small hotels and B&Bs a few minutes bus ride away. Edinburgh has a great public transport system.

I can recommend the Apex International - it's in Grassmarket and overlooks Edinburgh Castle, there are usually some good deals to be had if you sign up for their email alerts.

I agree with Jo...the Apex International is a great hotel...with a fantastic Scottish breakfast eaten over looking the castle...some great pubs nearby too....we always stay here when we fancy a night in Edinburgh...lol even though it's only 30 mins away from home

I have been travelling to Edinburgh every week for three years and have used three main hotels, The George, The Raddison, but preferably Malmaison in Lieth a bit of a cab ride, but a loverly hotel (look at the web site), you can walk to the Ocean Terminal shopping centre.

the holyrood aparthotel is lovely you get a 2 bedroom apartment with continental breakfast left in fridge and is within walking difference of everything. Other special hotels are the glasshouse and le monde. Look up laterooms for some good deals. Do not go to swallow learmonth.

Another vote for the Apex International, Having your breakfast looking out to the Castle is lovely. The vegetarian breakfast is very tasty, and
It's only a short walk through Princess street gardens to get to Princess street.
Ive stayed at the Apex hotel's and agree they are nice but on my last visit we stayed at Ten Hill Place, 5 min walk from Royal Mile near Festival theatre, it was superb. Just opened last year and everything is in great condition, flat screen tv's, large comfy beds, tasty brekkie, and reasonable price - under £65 for the room and brekkie, this was from ebookers. You wouldn't be disappointed

We enjoyed the Caledonian Hilton, they sometimes do special offers. They do a great afternoon tea, with Champagne  A great sunday lunch too. its just on Princes street.
It all depends what your budget is, there's a really wide range of accommodation available within a 10 minute walk to Princes Street from the Travlelodge-type places to 5 star hotels like the Sheraton and the Balmoral. There are also 3 new boutique-style hotels - Tigerlily and Le Monde on George Street and the Hudson at Charlotte Square.
As has also been mentioned there are several areas with a good supply of B&Bs e.g. Murrayfield / Roseburn and Newington are in close proximity to the centre (less than 10 mins on the bus or a 25 min walk).
If you want any tips on areas of Edinburgh before you book anything let me know. :)
As for shopping Stockbridge and Bruntsfield / Morningside have loads of quirky gift (and other) shops, great for a browse. Stockbridge isn't bad for a pub crawl either!!!:)
Well, after alot of indecisions, and searching the web we're going to be staying at Tigerlily (thanks Nic) :) Can't wait, and I'll probably post again nearer the time for ideas of fun things to do (apart of course from shopping).
Lucky you, the rooms look really nice! Hope you have a fab time!!
