Well thats ruined that. I was really looking forward to going to the Skywalk. In fact i was planning to save for a year to go to Vegas to see the Skywalk! Hopefully they will sort things out.

I don't get it.

If anyone goes to the Skywalk site, there's nothing that pretends it is a $25 package - it's very clearly $75....

...and £40, give or take, is not a lot to ask for that sort of experience is it?!?

Hi My daughter has just done this, she went on an a trip from Vegas to the Grand Canyon and if she wanted to go on the Skywalk it was an extra $25 which she paid and tells me it was brilliant

Not sure I would travel all that way to Nevada from the Uk to stress out over $50, if I want to see it and thats how much it is, then thats that.

I would expect the development to be completed though.

Personally I have more respect for the tribe maximising income on a commercial enterprise of this nature, as opposed to others that flap slapper cards in your face on the strip which all end up on the floor ( having said that I saw one delivering new cards to them last year driving a Aston Martin Vanquish...go figure, lol.

Agree entirely re the extra money!

Also saw the cards being delivered in the most fab cars - I never thought anyone called up the girls, but obvioulsy they do!!

Nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing could make me walk out of that thing..... and if you were to spend your $75 (which to be fair is a heck of a lot of money, I know we are from the UK and can half everything, but I think it's a lot), but IF someone was to walk out there then I'd expect to be able to take some photographs.

I was there at the end of Feb, just before it opened, and was told by one of the employees at the airport just down the road that no cameras would be allowed on it and that it would be rather pricey if you were just going for that as you would also have to pay the $50 per person to enter the reservation.

Just had my weekly e-mail from vegasresource.com and on of the things it lists is:

================================================== =========================
Mar.28= Grand Canyon West, a destination owned and operated by the Hualapai Tribe at the Grand
Canyon's western rim, opened THE SKYWALK. The Skywalk will be the first-ever cantilever shaped
glass walkway to suspend more than 4,000 feet above the canyon's floor and extend 70 feet from the
canyon's rim. Access to The Skywalk will run from dawn to dusk and will cost $25 per person in addition
to the cost of a Grand Canyon West entrance package. One hundred and twenty people will be allowed
on the bridge at a time. The cost is $25 perperson until December 31st, when it will go up to $45 per
person.

So it looks like next year it will be $95 per person.

Probably cheaper to take a helicopter tour, or some other tour to the canyon and then just pay for the skywalk as an extra and avoid the $50 reservation fee.

My point was i no longer think it is worth the money. Its not the Just $75 its an airfare, hotel and all the rest to us guys on the UK. Id love to experience it but would not like to pay all that cash right now to go to what appears to building site. Also not having a camera to capture the moment????

When its finished, il go. When they allow cameras or have a photographer il go. Until then il wait until they have it sorted.

The grand canyon, vegas and the west coast will be my Ultimate holiday. Il wait until i think its all perfect before booking.

Don't have a problem with the charge at all, although as said, the fact that we half dollar prices at the moment helps.
What the native Americans are doing is no different to local councils covering everywhere in no-parking zones then charging you to park your car near the promenade at seaside towns. People want to visit an area of natural beauty so lets make some money - at least they have built a SKY WALK. Visiting the seaside and parking your car should be free.
Same applies to town centres - soak the motorist to park - then wonder why they have so many empty shops whilst the out of town sites are heaving with their free parking !

I'm terrified of heights so I wouldn't be tempted. But if DS wanted to do it I would pay.:d:

I think you could feel 'ripped off' in most tourist places if you really thought about it.

Personally if I really wanted to do it I would and certainly wouldn't worry over a few dollars having travelled all that distance.

I would hate to get home and 'kick' myself for worrying about money and not doing something I really wanted to do!!

You only live once - spend spend spend!! ;)

Having been once to the grand canyon, with a second visit coming up this year, Id rather go to the North Rim, where there are less people, and views just as good.Personally standing on a piece of glass(however thick), doesnt appeal to me LOL

To some degree I agree with that, we have a family joke that 'we aren't doing that at 11 dollars a shot' - my dad's favorite phrase when we wanted to do anything on holiday.

However, if you thought the Skywalk was $25 (and it would appear the initial advertising did suggest you could drive there yourself and weren't obliged to take a $50 tour), then I think an unexpected increase to $75 is huge. We are a family of 4, as are many families that travel - that's $300 - No way would I spend $300 on this.

It's not so much the cost but not being able to capture the moment on camera or video that bugs me. Most travellers want the memory of the places they have been in hard copy to look at. This rule needs changing.

If anyone can recommend tours/tour companies it would be much appreciated as we are going in August.

Thanks

Have to admit I just don't fancy the glass walk myself - I took the Papillon tour via plane, helicopter and boat trip.

Loved the trip I took, and if I went again to the GC I'd chose the helicopter trip personally. :)

There is nothing on this earth that would persuade me to walk on this!! Eek big time! It's not the cost it's the height!! However, if people are willing to pay for it then so be it.

I've been to the Grand Canyon (North Rim) and it was superb, the views from the helicopter (which oddly I had no problem with) were fantastic.

When you consider the sums of money that people spend in FLA then $75 doesn't seem that bad...

$300 for a family, and no photos to take back? Not a chance! I'd rather pay for an aerial tour.

will will be there in september. Will be going to the north rim instead, staying in the national park hotel, the view will then be free!!!
