Hi, I am spending a few days in London for the Diana concert.
I have switched from the Merideian to the Trafalger Hilton, anyone know what its like.
Also
Anyone know the best way to book afternoon tea at the Ritz and how much it is.
Is the London Eye worth a go?
Anyone know any good Thames boat trips.

sorry, not been to London for a while, but my sister did the London eye and a Thames Boat trip together (not together but you know what I mean) it was one price.
sorry got a massive hangover, cheap bottle of red I think last night!
Have a good time!

Stayed at the Trafalgar Hilton when it first opened - it was good but did lack atmosphere but I guess these boutique hotels do, DD literally walked into Chris Eubank there too :pgig:.
The London Eye is a must - it really is fantastic, we went on in the day but I believe it is also good in the night, it is only a short walk from the hotel too.
When we did the bus tour we also got 'free' tickets for the boat tour on the Thames too.
Afternoon tea at The Ritz is £36pp + service and can be booked on-line at www.theritzlondon.com
Alternatives to The Ritz are Browns Hotel (http://www.brownshotel.com), Albermarle Street, £32.50pp +service (my recommendation); or Fortnum & Mason (http://www.fortnumandmason.com/about/restaurants/stjames/) (St James's Restaurant) from £29pp +service incl. champagne.
I don't know the Trafalgar Hilton but for a very good hotel I recommend the Hoxton Hotel - this punches well outside its league, and is in a great location for bars, clubs and restaurants albeit it is off the tourist route (but is near an underground station).
The London Eye is worth going on - for greater height I would also recommend a visit to Vertigo, the champagne bar on the 42nd floor of the former NatWest Tower (now "Tower 42"). For the price of a ride for 2 on the Eye you get a better view and a bottle of champagne to wash it down with. You need to book this at least 24 hours in advance.
IMHO all the boat trips are the same - so just get whatever is the cheapest.

Another vote for the English Tea Room at Browns, reports on the Ritz seem to imply that it full of star struck tourists!! Browns is much more "old money"!
We did the Eye many years ago, but it was a rather dull day, so didn't get the best view. But on a clear day I would expect it to be fabulous. xx

I've been on the eye a couple of times. Last time I timed it for sunset (can get the details on their site) so we were on it in daylight and dusk for a double experience!

If you do book tea at the ritz, why not go for the last one think its at around 7ish and includes a glass of champagne at the same cost.
Another vote for vertigo, its fantastic, it has recently undergone refurbishment

My fiance's uncle (I nearly typed husband there - woah!) is concierge at the Trafalgar. Not stayed there, but it's v. posh and boutiquey and they treat their guests really, REALLY well :D

Thanks for all your ideas:wave: more please.
Best Martinis in London/Europe/the World? - Dukes Hotel.
"The hotel which some say concocts one of the world's best Martinis" - New York Times.
See here (http://www.dukeshotel.com/dining.asp?id=2). Just choose either Vodka or Gin. You will only be allowed to purchase 2 per person - 3 and you would have to be carried out. ca. £15 each.

Oh for a boat trip with a difference try the rib. It's a high speed trip and therefore you go much further down the Thames. We did it last year and it was fab :D
..or for another different view via the Thames try the Yellow duck tour

yes the London eye is the best, as for tea, book direct with the Ritza . I think its £40 per head, but worth it for a once in a lift time thing, I enjoyed it, Hubby dont, said waste of money,
