I went for my 30th birthday and it was fantastic. It is not for the unadventurous as very few people speak English. Disney have 2 parks over there - Disneyland and DisneySea. DisneySea is nothing like any of the other Disney parks and has some really unusual rides. Disneyland is much the same as other Magic Kingdoms except all the rides are in Japanese (including It's a Small World..........enough said!!)
We didn't find it overly expensive - we ended up bringing quite a bit of money back. Tokyo itself is a interesting city and very, very safe to walk around.
I would go back in a heartbeat.

I went to Japan last year for 3 weeks - now one of my favourite places to visit - so much so that I am going back this year. Went to both Disney Parks - Disney has all the same rides as the US Disneys but Disney sea is unique and well worth a visit. Also visited Universal in Osaka which is also like the American park (except everything is in Japanese - funny hearing Arnie in Terminator speak in Japanese). Japan is one of the safest countries in the world and although not many people speak English they will go out of their way to help you, even taking you to where you want to go.

Although flights are quite expensive and hotels are not particularly cheap, there are plenty of restaurants to suit all budgets and my son, a really fussy eater, had no problems and he wont eat Japanese food. They have all the usual Starbucks, McDonalds, Hard Rock, TGIF etc.

If you get a chance go - you'll love it.
